‘Yellowstone’ Star Jefferson White Discusses Being Humbled by Horse

“Yellowstone’s” Jimmy is probably the newest cowboy to walk the ranch. He’s not only a rookie learning the ropes, he’s also no expert rider. Real-life actor Jefferson White says it’s about the same for him when it comes to riding. He says just as he thinks he’s coming along, a horse has a way of humbling him.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, White opened up about feeling like he’s come a long way – only to have a horse humble him again.

The actor underwent intense training learning how to ride. He even suffered what’s known as ‘saddle sores’ from being on a horse too much.

But the actor appreciates the experience as much as Jimmy does. He says he’s finally managing to get the hobby under control. But it was a long road coming.

And just like Jimmy is always learning lessons on the Yellowstone ranch, Jefferson White says he’s continually learning with the majestic animals.

“Yellowstone’s” Jefferson White Learns Lessons From Kevin Costner

In addition to riding horses, White says he’s grateful for the opportunity to learn from actors he’s looked up to for so many years.

One of those actors is the infamous Kevin Costner, who White says he’s constantly trying to learn new things from. He also opened up in an interview about his experience working with Costner.

“It’s incredible. It’s the gift of a lifetime,” White said of working with Costner and the rest of the cast. “And no matter what happens to Jimmy, maybe Jimmy falls off and doesn’t get back up, we don’t know what’s going to happen to him. No matter what, like the experience of working on this show, the experience of working with Kevin, those are lessons that will stay with me for the rest of my life.”

White added that he still has a lot to learn as an actor. Fortunately for him, he’s surrounded by top-shelf talent, and he also seems to genuinely like his co-stars.

“You know, in the same way that Jimmy’s learning how to ride from Rip, learning how to sort of navigate this world, I’m learning how to be an actor,” White explained. “I’m learning how to survive as an actor in a strange place, in a new world, from the best in the world. In the same way, we’re surrounded by the best horse trainers and stunt performers. We’re also surrounded by the best actors in the world.”
