The fourth season of “Yellowstone” is underway and Beth Dutton has already had a few signature “Beth Dutton” moments.
Kelly Reilly, the actress behind Beth Dutton, says fans can expect more vintage Beth as the season rolls along. In addition to her sassy side, which she has in spades, we have also seen Beth have a little compassion in season four. She invites the recently orphaned Carter into her and Rip Wheeler’s home, despite Rip’s objection. It was a rare moment of sensitivity for Beth and something we may see again in future episodes. The “Yellowstone” writing team has done an excellent job of giving Beth a “Human side” so far this season. Now, she is still Beth Dutton, as evidenced by her threat to kill her brother, Jamie Dutton. But we are seeing the evolution of Kelly Reilly’s character right before our eyes and it has “Yellowstone” fans very excited.
In a recent interview with Parade Magazine, Reilly talks about what is to come in the fourth season. She says “Yellowstone” Ranch will be facing its toughest challenge yet this season and Beth will have to be prepared. She also notes the Dutton family may seek out some unlikely allies in their fight to keep what is theirs.
“I’m interested in seeing that relationship with the Duttons and Rainwater,” Reilly said. “Probably the biggest threat that they’ve ever experienced is upon them right now in this season. And part of what I loved about doing this season is you’re seeing Beth realize there’s only so much she can do. There’s a potential that this has gone too far, and it’s turned her slightly panicked. She has got to find a way to save them, and she doesn’t think she can, and that’s something that is really interesting.”
‘Yellowstone’ Star Kelly Reilly Says Unlikely Alliances May Happen
It is interesting that Reilly specially mentions Thomas Rainwater and the Broken Rock Tribe as a potential ally. The Dutton family and the tribe have been foes for quite some time, dating back more than a century. As we saw in the “1883” preview last week, the factions have a rivalry going all the way back to the titular year.
Rainwater was the primary antagonist in the first “Yellowstone” season as he was seemingly willing to do anything to get at the Duttons. Since then, however, the two sides have formed something of an uneasy alliance based on mutual respect. It is an alliance that could very quickly all apart, but for now, it looks like a possibility.
The great threat that Reilly mentions is most likely Market equities CEO Caroline Warner. She’s already made her presence known in a big way in the first two “Yellowstone” episodes.
We will be getting a third new episode tonight (Sunday) at 8 p.m. ET.
