The fourth season of the hit Paramount Network series “Yellowstone” has come and gone but fans will be talking about it for a long time.
In one particular “Yellowstone” finale scene, Carter calls Beth “Mom,” much to her surprise. She first acknowledges Carter and calls him “baby” before realizing what she just did. Beth immediately recants and lashes out at Carter, bringing the poor boy to tears. She tells him that his mother is gone and that he will not get another one, much the same as her. Beth harshly explains to him why she will never be his mother.
“You lost your mother, kid. You don’t get another,” she says in a stern tone. “I lost mine. The same goes for me. And I’m nobody’s mother. Ever. Got it?”
It was a very Beth Dutton moment that “Yellowstone” fans have come to expect. But a couple of fans were upset by the scene and took to social media to tell Reilly about their disappointment with the “heartbreaking” scene. The post garnered a quick response from the “Yellowstone” actress Kelly Reilly.
“I understand,” Reilly says. “It is brutal and heartbreaking. I don’t usually comment but want to say this .. Beth was about to do something that will ruin her life. She is about to go into a prison and kill the man that she thinks attacked her family.”
The “Yellowstone” star continues by sharing her thoughts on the strong character she plays.
“Beth is honest,” she says. “It’s tough sometimes, really tough but that’s how she was raised .. but it’s always truthful. When I read it I had the same feeling for them both. But honestly, not sure Beth in that moment was ready to be that for anyone .. she was out for vengeance and could see nothing else.”
‘Yellowstone’ Adds To Tremendous Cast With Fourth Season
One of the highlights of the fourth season was the addition of young Australian actor Finn Little. He joined the cast to portray the trouble-making Carter, who lost his father early in the season. A chance encounter with Beth Dutton leads Carter to “Yellowstone” Ranch where he is taken in by Beth and Rip Wheeler. It is an unorthodox grouping but it is heartwarming to see the three at least put forth an effort to build a family.
It will be interesting to see where this storyline takes in the “Yellowstone” future. Beth and Rip Wheeler finally tied the knot in the season four finale. Beth, of course, is unable to bear children after a medical procedure several years ago. Carter may not be her biological child, but he’s seemingly won over the hearts of Rip and Beth.
Hopefully, we will get to see more of this unlikely family unit when “Yellowstone” returns for season five.
