‘Yellowstone’ Star Kelsey Asbille Reflects on Monica’s Violent Season 3 Sting Operation

The fourth season of “Yellowstone” is now upon us but we’re still reeling from the shocking conclusion to the previous season. The third season was certainly a game-changer for the show in more ways than one.

Actress Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica Dutton, recently spoke on one the of key moments from season three. In a potentially dangerous situation, Monica acts as bait to lure in a suspected serial rapist. The sting operation goes exactly as planned as Monica lures the man deep into the terrain. He is then sniped from long range by Mo Brings Plenty. It’s a defining scene from the third season and Asbille says she was thrilled to participate in it.

“When I first read I didn’t really realize it was a sting,” she says. “I think she (Monica Dutton) gets to control her narrative — which I think is so important. “It also kind of confronts the violence and can also honor the strength in Native Culture as well.”

The scene was one of the most memorable through three “Yellowstone” seasons and demonstrates what Monica will do for her people.

‘Yellowstone’ Star Looks Back at Season, Forward to New Season

It was an action-packed third season for “Yellowstone” — to say the very least.

In what has to be one of the best cliffhangers in modern television history, viewers are left to wonder if their favorite “Yellowstone” characters survive an attack. While it’s still fresh on our minds entering season four, it’s far from the only lasting impression we took from season three. Numerous characters had eventful third-season action, including Monica Dutton. Monica has her hands full for the majority of the season as she tries to adjust to life on “Yellowstone” Ranch.

She’s also tasked with providing education to her young son, Tate Dutton. Her husband, Kayce Dutton, appears to be just steps away from trouble at all times. It’s a lot to handle for the Native American mother and wife. Despite all she has on her plate, Monica also finds ways to contribute to the cause of the Broken Rock Tribe.

That is likely to continue into season four as the Dutton family reels from the third season attacks. Later in the interview, Asbille says Monica will turn to her Native American heritage as a source of healing.

“Monica really looks to her people and her culture as a way of healing,” she says. “I think there are some really beautiful moments in this season, especially with Gil and Mo. I really love that we are diving back into that world.”
