“Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner is remembering a “really special moment” that he shared with actor Dwier Brown while shooting “Field of Dreams.”
The Oscar-winning actor and director took to Instagram recently to post a series of snaps, including one in which he faces Brown playing his character Ray’s father, John Kinsella, in the movie, and asks him if he wants to play catch.
“A really special moment with @DwierBrown,” Costner posted to his Instagram Stories.
Costner and Brown were in Iowa this week marking the first Major League Baseball game played in an Iowa cornfield. About three decades after “Field of Dreams” came out, the MLB has built an 8,000-seat stadium in Dyersville, Iowa, near the diamond used in the 1989 film.
In the movie, baseball greats of the past materialize on the diamond that Ray Kinsella builds in the middle of his Iowa cornfields. The matchup on Thursday was between the present-day Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees.
Kevin Costner Says ‘Field of Dreams’ Remains Moving 32 Years Later
At a press conference before the big game, the “Yellowstone” star spoke about the emotions “Field of Dreams” still evokes for him, even today.
“I’m moved by it. I am,” he said, according to Deadline. “Somewhere along the line, if you have some unfinished business, that movie starts to take over.”
And Costner knows he’s not the only one who feels that way. On the 25th anniversary of his movie’s release, he returned to Dyersville with his two sons. They wanted to play catch, but the moment soon drew a line of observers.
“I was throwing grounders to them, when I looked over and said to myself, ‘There’s something going on,’” Costner recalled. “There was a line [of people], and suddenly something came over me. I whispered to the boys that there’s a bunch of men standing up over there that want to play catch with me. A lot of the attention comes to me, and it happens all the time. My boys understand that.”
‘Yellowstone’ Star Kicked Off a Night to Remember
Fans obtained tickets to Thursday’s game through a lottery that was limited to fans with Iowa zip codes, Sports Illustrated reports. They reportedly got into the stadium by walking through a field of corn from the original movie baseball diamond nearby.
As the game began, Costner emerged from the cornfields surrounding the new stadium’s outfield and walked onto the diamond. Then he turned around as the two MLB teams strolled out onto the field to join him.
