With a brand new season of “Yellowstone” still several months away, fans of the show are turning to the internet for their western fix.

“Yellowstone” fans are flooding message board sites, like Reddit, to discuss and speculate on what might be in store. Topics of conversation range from the attack on the Dutton family to where Rip Wheeler gets his jackets. There is something for every “Yellowstone” fan on these forum sites that are solely for discussion on the show. A recent Reddit thread discusses the relationship between Jamie and Beth Dutton. The post creator questions just why Jamie is such a disliked person on the show. Jamie is a lightning rod for criticism — even among his own family.

“I understand Beth’s hatred for Jamie over the hysterectomy but why does everyone hate him?” the “Yellowstone” fan asks. “He never does anything to purpose screw the family except for the reporter incident, which he resolves to protect the family.”

The third season reveals that Jamie takes a young Beth to get an abortion. During the procedure, she is also made sterile during the operation, leaving her unable to bear children. Beth holds an intense grudge against her brother for the incident. But Beth isn’t the only Dutton on “Yellowstone” Ranch with contempt for Jamie. His father and family patriarch John Dutton is also often flustered with Jamie. This matter intensifies in the third season when he discovers that he was adopted by the Dutton family as an infant. Jamie also seems to be endlessly striving for his father’s approval and praise but rarely finds it. His political ambitions often lead him to clash with his father, who wants Jamie to do what is best for the family.

‘Yellowstone’ Fans Ponder Hatred for Jamie Dutton

Several “Yellowstone” fans chime in on the thread with their own theories on why Jamie is the “black sheep” of the Dutton clan.

“I think they are playing with themes of family, loyalty and belonging and the particular hierarchichal biases in the Dutton family,” another Redditor replies. “For the Duttons nothing beats blood and that makes a character like Jamie a good foil.”

The “Yellowstone” poster makes a good point as the shocking third season twist reveals that Jamie isn’t a “true” Dutton. Does that make him an easy target of criticism for John Dutton? It is certainly fathomable to believe it does as John is much more kind-hearted to his other children.

Many fans of the show believe that Jamie is behind the attacks on the Dutton family to close out the third season. This theory is strengthened by the fact that Jamie meets his biological father, Garrett Randall, last season. Randall seemingly suggests to Jamie that he “kill the king” of the “Yellowstone” empire. That would be one John Dutton, Jamie’s adopted father.

With the new season growing closer, the wait for answers will soon come to end.
