‘Yellowstone’ TV: Brecken Merrill and the ‘Young Jamie’ Actor Smile for Camera on Set of Indie Film

by Thad Mitchell

As we eagerly await the return of our favorite modern western drama series, “Yellowstone,” the show’s cast is enjoying their free time.

Brecken Merrill, who plays curious cowboy-in-training Tate Dutton, is using his downtime to do some good. It’s been an eventful “Yellowstone” offseason for Merrill as he’s taken up an unusual hobby. The young television star got into the owl pellet dissection game earlier this year. Judging by his social media posts, he seems to really enjoy his strange new hobby. He also got a Jack Russell Terrier puppy recently, that he named “Betty.”

Merrill has also reunited with a few of his “Yellowstone” co-stars in an effort to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Last week, Merrill posted on social media that he would be teaming with fellow actor Kyle Silverstein for a question-and-answer session. Silverstein plays a young Rip Wheeler in “Yellowstone” flashbacks to Rip’s childhood. This week, Merrill says “Yellowstone” actor Dalton Baker will be joining in on the fun to benefit St. Jude. Merrill used his Instagram account on Tuesday to share the news with his fans and social media followers.

“What’s cooler than Tate and Young Rip answering cowboy questions for St. Jude?” he asks in the post’s caption. “Tate, Rip and Young Jamie! I’m still working out the details, but I’m hoping we can have a fun little virtual reunion!”

Baker has played the younger version of Jamie Dutton in a couple of “Yellowstone” scenes. He is already familiar with Merrill as the two have worked together before.

“Fun fact: Dalton Baker plays young Jamie on “Yellowstone,” but he also plays my cousin in a very cool Indie film we shot last summer,” he said.

‘Yellowstone’ Stars Reunite For A Great Cause

Merrill said in the post that he will provide more details to fans once they become available. One wonders if the reunion between the “Yellowstone” actors means we might see more flashbacks scenes for Jamie and Rip. “Yellowstone” fans would certainly love to see that happen.

As for Merrill, the hope is that Tate takes on an even larger role in the upcoming fourth season. Tate is the grandson of Yellowstone Ranch owner John Dutton and the son of Kayce and Monica Dutton. He’s been put through the wringer through three seasons of the show. He’s done battle with a rattlesnake, seen his parents split and then reconvene and was kidnapped by an armed militia in season two.

We hope Tate has a more pleasant season four, but as always with “Yellowstone,” there are bound to be a few surprises.
