Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is coming out with a new show called Mayor of Kingstown, and it finally has a premiere date. According to Deadline, the Jeremy Renner lead series will air on November 14th.
The publication also states that the contemporary drama series will follow the Mclusky Family. They are incredibly powerful brokers who make their money off of for-profit prisons in Kingstown, Michigan. The drama takes a look at the harsh realities of corruption, systemic racism, and inequality.
Jeremy Renner is also an executive producer on the series as well as a star. Renner is best known for his role as the superhero Hawkeye in multiple Marvel films including The Avengers film series. Renner has also starred in The Bourne Legacy and The Hurt Locker.
The Mayor of Kingstown is one of two new series coming out this fall for Taylor Sheridan and is a part of a growing plan to turn Yellowstone into a franchise with Taylor Sheridan at the helm. Mayor of Kingstown will also take place in the same world as Yellowstone.
‘Mayor of Kingstown’ is only The Beginning for Taylor Sheridan
On top of Mayor of Kingstown coming out this November, season 4 of Yellowstone will air a week prior. Not only that, but a Yellowstone spinoff 1883, will premiere in December.
1883 stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliott. It follows an early generation of Duttons as they navigate the great plains and head west to start a new life. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will play James and Margaret Dutton while Sam Elliott will play their guide. The series will premiere on December 19th, and McGraw and Hill are incredibly excited about the opportunity.
Mayor of Kingstown and Yellowstone are a part of a growth effort on behalf of Paramount. Chris McCarthy, President, and CEO, MTV Entertainment talked about the strategy to expand the Yellowstone world with Deadline.
“Our strategy is to make Yellowstone, the massive No. 1 hit with more than 10 million fans, into a global hit franchise under the incredible creative vision of Taylor Sheridan’s world-building storytelling,” he told the publication. Sheridan’s storytelling has proven once again incredibly successful.
“These new series will debut on Paramount+ and have special premiere day sneak episodes behind Yellowstone introducing this huge audience to these new stories, allowing us to leverage our linear platforms to fuel the growth of Paramount+ which will stream each series exclusively after episode two,” McCarthy explained.
Many who work with Sheridan or have seen his work have expressed that he truly is a powerhouse of a writer. Many attribute him to being one of the key figures that are keeping the western genre alive. The long wait between seasons 3 and 4 with little explanation was hard for Yellowstone fans. But now, with two new shows coming out and season 4 around the corner, all of it seems worth the wait.
