Fans of hit Paramount Network series Yellowstone know that becoming emotionally attached to a character is a dangerous proposition.
With a script that throws surprise after surprise at its fan base, Yellowstone can seemingly kill off any character at any time. Sometimes, the show’s actors aren’t even sure if their character will be alive for the next episode. Such is the case for actor Denim Richards, who plays ranch hand, Colby, on the show.
In an emotionally gripping moment from season three, the lives of Colby and fellow ranch hand, Teeter, hang in the balance. Colby and Teeter, played by Jen Landon, are nearly trampled to death at the hands of Wade and Clint Morrow. The two ranch hands, who have a blossoming romance, took a break from work to go for a swim. As they are splashing around in the creek, the Morrows arrive and proceed to command their horse to trample the pair. It is a horrific scene and Yellowstone fans are left to wonder if the duo survives the attack. It certainly appeared to be a bleak situation for Colby and Teeter as they spend much time being trounced on.
In a recent episode of “Stories from the Bunkhouse,” Richards admits there were some sleepless nights after the scene. While Landon knew that the characters would survive, Richards wasn’t immediately made aware. His Yellowstone fate led to some tense moments for the actor as he wonders if he still has a job.
“I definitely thought I was dead,” Richards recalls. “I was running around my house in a manic state, like ‘Oh my God what’s happened?'”
‘Yellowstone’ Star Jen Landon Knew What Was Coming
Landon admits that Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan had already informed her of Teeter and Colby’s survival. She was to tell Richards the news, and did, but not until he already had the script in hand.
“He was like, ‘‘The next script that’s coming out you’re gonna think you died, you don’t die,” Landon says of Sheridan. “And then basically he was like, ‘Oh, and tell Denim.'”
It may have given Denim a mild panic attack but he is thankful to remain a part of Yellowstone.
Fans are also clamoring to see what comes of Colby and Teeter’s sprouting relationship in the upcoming new season. They may seem like an odd couple but Yellowstone fans certainly want to see where the story takes them.
Yellowstone expects to return for its fourth season in the near future. There is no official date for the premiere but it is coming soon.
