‘Yellowstone’ TV Fans Investigate Whether Show Will Premiere Season 4 Near Same Dates as Previous Seasons

by Jon D. B.

While Chief Joseph Ranch toted a June release date for Yellowstone Season 4 back in November of 2020, sharp fans are coming up empty via Paramount’s release schedule. So what gives?

For a masterclass in cliffhangers, re-watch Yellowstone‘s Season 3 finale. For a masterclass in “seriously, what the hell gives?“… Continue waiting for Yellowstone Season 4 with us.

With hide nor hair of an announcement, trailer, or even a teaser in 2021, fans have become beyond impatient in their wait. It’s an unusual situation, to be sure, as Seasons 2 & 3 saw Yellowstone become one of the most talked-about shows on television. Season 3 even saw it reach #1 cable drama status. So why isn’t Paramount promoting their confirmed, upcoming Season 4 at all?

In some ways, well, we just answered our own question. Yet the absence of even a teaser leading up to Father’s Day 2021 – when all previous seasons released around Father’s Day their respective years – is… Suspect.

Indeed, the first three seasons of Yellowstone hit June 20, 2018 – June 19, 2019 – and June 21, 2020. In the latter year, real-life Yellowstone Ranch, Chief Joseph Ranch, even posted a June 2021 release date to their official Instagram account:

“That’s a wrap on filming Season 4! 👏🏼 Who is excited for the premiere in June?” they captioned their post.

Yet here we are in June of 2021… And nothing. As such, Reddit fans have begun looking to Paramount Network’s own schedule for answers. We’re mere weeks away from when past premieres hit, so something should be showing in their June roster, right?

‘Yellowstone’ Fans Come Up Dry for Father’s Day Season 4 Release

Looking to the June 19-21 release schedule for Paramount Network, one Reddit fan posts the following update:

“Just scrolled through PN schedule and no Yellowstone listed for Father’s Day. I checked from 6/19 at 12:30 a.m. through 6/21 at 5:30 a.m. and nothing for the Big Y. I guess Father’s Day will just be another day…sorry, dad. Oops, dad is crying ‘cuz he wanted to see Yellowstone on his special day, too. You big meanies!”

So, in short: it looks like Yellowstone is either holding out for one hell of a last-minute surprise… Or we’re not getting Season 4 in June. Which is nowhere near the end of the world. But is, at the least, rather odd.

One reason for the delay may be the COVID-19 Pandemic. The show filmed all through 2020, however, so this feels unlikely. Instead, it feels like Paramount is playing heavily into the incredible success of Season 3, and looking to pull something special for fans.

Another Redditor has a different theory, though: “I read earlier that it was pushed back due to the Olympics. It will start sometime in August. I don’t think they want to have to compete with popular Olympic events.”

Outsider can’t find any confirmation on this from Paramount or any major trades, however. Yahoo News did some sleuthing on this, too, and also came up dry.

Could We See Season 4 for July 4th?

Despite all this, one fan’s reply hits us all the right ways:

“Weird thought,” the Redditor begins. “When my alarm went off today the very first thought I had was ‘July 4th is a Sunday. Maybe they could air it then. It would be great—pig out, watch some fireworks, drink a bit, then get all amped up on Yellowstone.'”

Yellowstone Season 4… For July 4th? Now there’s a theory…

Hopefully our July 4th is more exciting than Kayce’s evening above. Yet until we get any sort of teaser – or an unbelievable surprise release – we’re all still just guessing along.
