“Yellowstone” fans never miss a trick. And now they want to know who Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) was shooting in a recent trailer. Could the gunshot we hear be a bullet aimed at Jamie himself?
In the trailer, we see Jamie training a gun on someone. He appears to close one eye as he aims the gun. Then the screen goes black and we hear a gunshot.
“I want to know who Jamie is shooting?” one fan posted in response to the trailer. Is the gunshot we hear Jamie’s shot… or someone else’s? Some fans are predicting that Jamie dies in Season 4. After all, series co-creator Taylor Sheridan did already kill off Lee Dutton (Dave Annable).
On Reddit, Fans Debate Whether Jamie Is a Murderer Who May Kill Again
Whether Jamie lives or dies remains to be seen. But he’s arguably already shown that he’s more likely to kill than to get killed. Still, would Jamie stoop to violent attacks on his own adoptive family members?
In a recent Reddit thread, fans debated whether or not to call Jamie a murderer. He killed a reporter who was preparing an expose on the Dutton family that he himself had participated in. Then, with Rip Wheeler’s (Cole Hauser) help, he covered it up.
“I love how everyone calls Jamie a murderer but refuses to see Rip, John, and Kayce as one,” the fan pointed out.
Another fan argued that all of the Duttons’ ranch hands are complicit in the death of Wade Morrow (Boots Southerland), making them murderers, too. As for Kayce, well, he’s got a number of killings to his name, but most of them were violent villains, making the head count seem slightly less homicidal on Kayce’s part.
“I don’t think Jamie is behind the attacks but he is definitely a murderer,” another fan pronounced.
What Does Taylor Sheridan Have in Store for Jamie in Season 4 of ‘Yellowstone’?
There’s definitely a sense among fans that Jamie could throw some curveballs this season. With the news about his adoption still fresh and a child on the way, the black sheep of the Dutton family has been shaken up. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last August, Bentley said he had no idea where Sheridan would take the story after the Season 3 finale.
“With Taylor, we’ll be on a path down one way and he’ll cut the branches on the side so we’re going to tumble down with him,” Bentley said. “Outside of aliens landing, I don’t know where Taylor is going to go from here. He gave himself the ability to go from any angle now. To restart or refresh, he definitely has left himself an open door for a lot of options. I think that’s clever. He has a plan, so I think he was ahead of it.”
“As an audience, it feels like the board got wiped and we can write some new things on that board,” he added.
What Sheridan decided to write will become clear soon enough. Season 4 of “Yellowstone” premieres Sunday, Nov. 7, exclusively on the Paramount Network.
