‘Yellowstone’ TV: Here’s Why Some Fans Can’t Help But Have ‘Sympathy’ for Jamie Dutton

by Thad Mitchell

When it comes to the Paramount Network series “Yellowstone,” opinions vary greatly upon one central character in the middle of it all.

If you were to ask 10 different “Yellowstone” fans to give their thoughts on Jamie Dutton, you would likely get 10 different answers. On a show with a great cast and characters, Wes Bentley does some really great work with Jamie. Some “Yellowstone” fans despise Jamie more than any other character on the show. Other fans claim Jamie Dutton to be one of their favorite characters on the show. No matter which side you fall on, we think we can all agree that Jamie is one of the most complex characters on “Yellowstone.”

Jamie Dutton is also one of the most talked-about characters on “Yellowstone” and for good reason. Through three seasons, Jamie has been put through the wringer. He often squabbles with his father, John Dutton, over the direction of his political ambitions. His only sister, Beth Dutton, hates his guts for an incident when they were kids that left her unable to bear children. Last season, Jamie discovers he is adopted after requesting a copy of his birth certificate. He also connects with his biological father, Garrett Randall, for the first time. To make matters even worse, Randall seemingly wants Jamie to kill his adoptive father, John Dutton.

‘Yellowstone’ Fans Sound Off on Jamie Dutton

With all these things in mind, it is easy to see why Jamie is one of the most discussed characters on “Yellowstone.” A recent Reddit thread asks fans if they sympathize with Jamie. The answers are just as complex as the character, as every day “Yellowstone” fans reveal their feelings for Jamie Dutton.

“I really like Jamie!” a fan writes in the thread. “Whenever he tries to do something to help the family they don’t accept it or he f***s up. I hate how Beth treats him and I do understand to a point, but what else was he supposed to do when she got pregnant? He was put in an impossible situation! When Jamie was about to commit suicide that absolutely broke me.”

Other Redditors and “Yellowstone” fans fell on the other side of the spectrum, saying they feel no sympathy for Jamie.

“Definitely no,” another fan says. “I feel sorry and have no sympathy for him. The only one who treats him with respect in that family is Kayce.”

Despite mixed feelings from “Yellowstone” fans, everyone is excited to see what season four has in store for Jamie Dutton.

Many fans believe he is behind the attack on his adoptive family. Others believe he will come to the Dutton family’s rescue when he learns of the attacks.

With the recent announcement of a fall return for “Yellowstone,” the wait for new episodes is coming to a close.
