How much money is Yellowstone having to wrangle up in order to pay for production?

The fourth season of Yellowstone will be taking place in Montana. The show depicts the “Dutton Ranch” as being in the state. However, Park City, Utah is the actual location for 75% of the first three seasons.

How Much Does ‘Yellowstone’ Cost?

According to the Salt Lake City Tribune, the production cost around $80 million while filming in Utah. Each season averages slightly less than $27 million with each episode estimated to cost $3.5 million in filming.

The award-winning lead actor of the Paramount show, Kevin Costner, makes $500,000 per episode playing John Dutton. According to reports, the younger, lesser-known actors earn half of Costner’s salary. The other main co-stars, including Cole Hauser, Kelly Reiley, Luke Grimes, and Wes Bentley are allegedly receiving approximately $200,000 or less per episode.

Season 4 Cost Affected by COVID

Season 4 recently finished filming, and the costs are different than previous seasons. Due to COVID-19, the entire cast and crew of Season 4 had to adhere to strict safety precautions put in place to prevent the spread of COVID.

This season the cast and crew are living in the “Dutton Ranch” area, which is actually located in and around Missoula, Montana, where the filming takes place.

At this point, no full financial information has been revealed for Season 4. However, the film industry has taken a hit due to the added costs of COVID testing and protocols. The coronavirus precautions make up 20% of a series’ total budget.

‘Yellowstone’ Actually Goes to Montana

The new Montana set is making for a more cost-effective production, along with helping the show be as authentic as possible.

Montana has a new $10 million tax credit law compared to Utah’s $8.5 million tax credit. At the present time, Yellowstone is taking advantage of the opportunity of the move being more cost-effective.
