All you “Yellowstone” fans probably know by now that Paramount+ and MTV Entertainment Studios recently announced the cast for the upcoming prequel series, “1883.”
And three of our favorite celebrities are joining the cast: country music stars Faith Hill and Tim McGraw and Oscar nominee Sam Elliott. The prequel will follow the current Dutton’s ancestors as they make their way through the Great Plains to the west. According to the show’s official description, “It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana.”
Sam Elliott will play the “tough as nails” cowboy Shea Brennan. Real-life country couple, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will play the family matriarch and patriarch, Margaret and James Dutton. We cannot wait to see one of our favorite celebrity couples navigate the raw conditions of western life in 1883.
Obviously, Tim McGraw is also excited about the project. He recently took to social media to announce the casting news.
“It’s going to be a fantastic family saga about the original Duttons and their journey to Montana and how they founded the ranch up there,” said McGraw in the video. McGraw added that “Yellowstone” co-creator Taylor Sheridan is “one of the most special writers I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading material from.”
‘Yellowstone’ Star Kevin Costner Responds to Tim McGraw’s Casting Announcement
So, what does the “Yellowstone” cast think about the prequel’s cast? Kevin Costner, who plays John Dutton on “Yellowstone” commented on Tim McGraw’s announcement video. After all, McGraw will be playing Costner’s great grandfather in the new series. So, his approval is necessary. Costner’s comment was short and sweet, and very cowboy.
“Dutton looks good on you,” commented Costner.
Getting a nod of approval from one of the biggest stars of the current “Yellowstone” cast is a pretty big deal. If Costner gives the seal of approval, we think most fans will also approve.
“We couldn’t be more excited,” said McGraw during the same video.
We didn’t get too many more details about the upcoming series and the actors’ roles. However, we did learn that McGraw will have a beard for the show. During the video announcement, McGraw joked that fans have been asking him about why he grew a beard.
“Now you know why!” said McGraw with a smile.
The official “Yellowstone” Instagram account also commented on McGraw’s video. No word needed, it simply commented with a series of clapping hands emojis.
The studios also revealed when fans can expect to start watching “1883.” They didn’t give an exact date but they did release a trailer earlier this year stating that the series is coming sometime in 2021. However, the premiere of season four of “Yellowstone” has already been pushed back several months this year. So, it’s possible that “1883” won’t premiere until sometime in 2022. We’ll all just have to wait and see!
