Yellowstone‘s own Beth Dutton, Kelly Reilly, speaks to her “new favorite character” and the relationship it brings in this BTS feature.
“In “Phantom Pain,” Jamie buys his own ranch. What could go wrong?” asks Yellowstone‘s official Twitter Wednesday with a new featurette. Within, several beloved actors from the series give up unique behind-the-scenes tidbits from Season 4, Episode 2.
But it’s Kelly Reilly‘s, in particular, that’s tugging at fans’ heartstrings. And you guessed it, she’s talking up young Finn Little’s 14-year-old addition to the cast: Carter. Reilly describes the troubled teen as “Probably one of my favorite characters,” and after the Season 4 premiere it’s not hard to see why.
“Him and Beth meet outside the hospital,” the actor grins wide. And if you didn’t catch it during the episode, you will here: the bench Beth is sitting on as she smokes holds a metal plaque reading “thank you for not smoking.” Classic Beth.
“She meets this kid, played by the extraordinary young actor, Finn Little. And they have this conversation about their dads dying. It’s an odd, weirdly beautiful scene,” Reilly beams. Her love for both Little and his character are beyond evident within:
“Before you know it, Beth goes with him! And she’s in the room with him as he says goodbye to his dad,” she continues via the Twitter feature.
“She sort of feels sorry for him,” Little adds of his character, Carter.
“It’s sort of just this fated moment where suddenly, these two people who are alone in the world meet,” Reilly says. We’re not sure how much Rip Wheeler would agree with that sentiment, Beth…
‘Yellowstone’s Ballad of Beth & Carter
After being informed Carter has labeled her as “his guardian,” Beth does what we all knew she had in her.
“She feels like she has to take me in and help me because I’ve got no chance,” Little smiles.
“And suddenly [Beth] takes on what it feels like to look after someone,” Reilly adds. “And I just found that so moving, that she would even allow that thought in. When we think of Beth… She’s so hard and so tough and strong. But at the same time we get these moments, these sort of caverns of deep feeling. Deep devotion, love and passion,” the Yellowstone star continues. “And suddenly, she’s going to accept this kid into her heart!”
“I think he might be our kid, baby,” Beth tells Rip right before his initial meeting with Carter. If you’ve made it this far, then you’ve watched the episode already and know how brilliantly this trio’s dynamic unfolds.
The rest of the behind-the-scenes feature is a worthy watch for Yellowstone fans, too. Within, Finn Little and Cole Hauser offer plenty more insight into their budding relationship(s). And from one Outsider to another, I’m sure it’s no stretch to say we can’t wait for next Sunday to see where it all leads.
