Fans of “Yellowstone” know Kelsey Asbille for her portrayal of Monica Dutton on the hit Paramount series. Asbille has been finding consistent acting work since 2008, but at only 29 years old, the actress has a bright future ahead of her. She is fortunate enough to be working alongside some legendary actors on the Taylor Sheridan show. And it looks like she’s soaking up everything she can.

Since 2018, Kelsey Asbille has appeared as Monica Dutton in all 29 episodes of “Yellowstone.” The years of experience she’s gained working side by side with Kevin Costner and Kelly Reilly, not to mention the rest of the cast, has been invaluable to her. In fact, besides the opportunity to work with Taylor Sheridan again, the cast was one of the main reasons she took the job in the beginning.

“Working with people like Kevin Costner and Kelly Reilly, who I look up to so much, is like taking a master class,” Asbille told W Magazine in 2018.

Someone as young as Kelsey Asbille would have lived her entire life with Kevin Costner as an iconic actor. Getting the opportunity to work with him over the past few years had to be surreal for her. At least, “surreal” is how she described the experience of Will Smith being a sort of mentor to her on the set of her first-ever TV show.

Surreal though the experience might be for the “Yellowstone” star, she’s going into her work on the show with an open mind. And it’s not just Costner who she’s trying to learn from. Asbille has been watching Kelly Reilly act since she was a little girl. The Beth Dutton actress is considerably younger than her on-screen father Kevin Costner, but she has plenty to offer in terms of experience.

The ‘Yellowstone’ Star’s Mentor is Still Will Smith… Sort of

Kelsey Asbille got her career started with a one-off role on an episode of Dinsey’s sitcom, “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.” By sheer happenstance, a young Jaden Smith happened to be a guest star on that same episode. The result was Will Smith showing up to the table read and offering advice to the group of young actors.

Wonderful as it would be if Will Smith took her under his wing and offered her advice through her journey from Disney to “Yellowstone,” that was not the case. But Asbille doesn’t have any hard feelings about it. Obviously, she understands that he’s extremely busy with his own career. She’s happy settling for the wisdom he shares on Instagram.

“I wish,” Asbille responded when asked if she keeps in touch with Will Smith. “I have so much to ask him! But I follow him on Instagram and that’s where I get all my life advice now, from Will Smith’s Instagram. I sound like a stalker but, honestly, that whole family is incredible.”
