‘Yellowstone’ TV: Who Did ‘Lloyd’ Actor Forrie J. Smith Play on Legendary Western ‘Tombstone’?

by Thad Mitchell

Everyone’s favorite Yellowstone senior cowboy Forrie J. Smith is no stranger to playing parts in western theme television shows and film.

That is because Smith, who continues to get more air time on Yellowstone, is a real cowboy in real life. Playing roles in westerns comes naturally to Forrie because he has been there and done that. Born and raised in Montana, he grew up around a cattle ranch and has had more than his share of experience atop a horse. A true cowboy at heart, Smith brings that same attitude to his Yellowstone character, Lloyd Pierce. The senior statesman of the bunkhouse crew, Lloyd has quickly become a fan favorite. You would be hard-pressed to find a Yellowstone watcher that isn’t rooting for Lloyd. Full of knowledge and kindness, it is tough to not fall in love with Smith’s character as most fans already have.

His acting resume is full of roles as cowboys and outlaws. While Yellowstone has put the rough and gritty actor on the map, his list of acting work is quite impressive. Among his film and television credits are “Rambo II,” “2 Guns” and Breaking Bad spinoff “Better Call Saul.”

The Yellowstone star also played a key role in the 1993 hit movie Tombstone where he played outlaw “Pony Deal.” While it isn’t exactly a big role in the classic western movie, Smith pulls it off quite well…as you would expect from an actual cowboy. Pony Deal is an actual outlaw who roamed New Mexico before passing away in 1988. In Tombstone, Deal is part of a group accused by Wyatt Earp of attempting to kill his brother.

Yellowstone Creator and Actor Have a History

Yellowstone is also not the first time that Smith has worked with show creator Taylor Sheridan. He also played a role in “Hell or High Water,” which Sheridan wrote. Another Yellowstone actor, Gil Birmingham, also played a part in the 2016 movie.

Yellowstone fans are eager to see what the future has in store for Lloyd as season four is quickly approaching. The third season ended with Lloyd in something of a love triangle with ranch hand Walker and “buckle bunny” Laramie. It is a storyline that has the potential to see even more air time in the upcoming new season. Fans are undoubtedly rooting for Lloyd to win back the girl from Walker.

Lloyd is also set to be Rip Wheeler’s Best Man if and when he weds Beth Dutton. That storyline, along with several others, is very much up in the air at this point.

There is no official date yet, but Yellowstone is expected to return soon.
