We could’ve already known what was going to happen to John Dutton, without ever “really” knowing until now.
Some similarities between the “Yellowstone” pilot episode and the season three finale are coming to light, according to Express. In the first episode, “Daylight,” John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner, is seen on the side of the road after suffering a car crash.
Fan Points Out John Dutton’s Character Misfortune
A new fan of the show posted their theory on Reddit that we could’ve known what was going to happen to Dutton in the season three finale. This is starting a series of theories by some of the show’s closest followers.
The Reddit user, who goes by FlowerBambiThumper, shares this, “I’m a firm believer that when a writer begins a story, he has some concept of where he wants to go. In some cases, they know the ending before they know anything else.”
“Yellowstone” co-creator Taylor Sheridan may not know the exact direction he wants to take the series. However, he has confirmed that he has ideas for more future seasons. Kelly Reilly even told Esquire that Sheridan did have certain storylines planned out from season one.
Furthermore, the Reddit user continues to write Dutton’s roadside introduction could’ve been a clue.
Dutton’s Father-Son Relationship Theories
They are also pointing out the plotline between Dutton and his one son, Jaime.
“But the very first scene of the whole series between John and one of his children is Jamie taking care of John’s injury. For someone whose children drive his entire life’s ambition, that scene jumps out,” they write.
Watchers of the binge-worthy series are chiming in and saying that the first scene between Dutton and Jaime, played by Wes Bentley, gave us all some insight on what to expect from the pair.
One fan comments, “He was dripping contempt for Jamie in that scene. Real foreshadowing there. He all but called him a sissy who doesn’t belong there.”
The possible root of the tumultuous relationship was put on display during season three. It was something that we were all kind of expecting, though slightly shocking. Jaime is John’s adopted son.
Followers of “Yellowstone” are saying these incidents are far from coincidences. John’s health has been at the forefront during the series. It could be said that Dutton has nine lives, and this could very well be the last one he is granted.
