‘Yellowstone’ TV: Is Season 3 Villain Roarke Going to Be Killed Off in Season 4?

by Jennifer Shea

“Yellowstone” Season 3 brought a new villain, Market Equities’ Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway). The chipper, yoga-crazed angler may prove to be the most lethal villain the Duttons have faced yet. But recent theories beg the question: is Roarke headed for an early grave? Or perhaps leaving the Duttons’ turf of his own volition, his mission accomplished?

The reason for that question is the recent announcement that Roarke actor Holloway has accepted a role in an HBO Max series. According to the Express, Holloway will star as the driver for a growing crime syndicate in “Duster,” which takes place in the Southwest in the 1970s. That seemingly will not leave him much time for “Yellowstone.”

All that would seem to suggest that Roarke will be written out of “Yellowstone” soon. But what do the fans think about a Season 4 exit for his character?

Some ‘Yellowstone’ Fans Aren’t Into Roarke

On Reddit, “Yellowstone” fans recently sounded off on Roarke and Market Equities. They were not into those particular villains. And an earlier fan poll on the best villain on the show found that fans thought the Beck Brothers, from Season 2, were more formidable opponents.

“I want Roarke gone,” one commenter posted. “His character was a major flop. He wasn’t interesting. He wasn’t ‘bad’ enough…”

Others found Roarke pleasant enough, but said it was time to write him and his hedge fund off “Yellowstone.”

“It’s so hard to dislike Roarke’s character but I wouldn’t mind him and Market Equity being off the show for good!” another commenter chimed in.

One thing is for sure. Most fans believe Market Equities had a hand in the seemingly coordinated attacks on the Duttons in the Season 3 finale. Many seem to think it wasn’t Jamie (Wes Bentley) who called in the attacks on his adoptive family.

“The people at Market Equities had just said they were going to play really dirty, so it’s very clearly them who did all of this,” yet another commenter posted.

Previous Villains Have Lasted For About One Season

There’s another argument for the likelihood that Roarke will exit the show in Season 4. All of the previous villains have lasted for about one season before being eclipsed by a new villain or killed off.

Developer Dan Jenkins (Danny Huston) was the villain during Season 1, along with Chief Rainwater (Gil Birmingham). In Season 2, the Beck Brothers (Neal McDonough and Terry Serpico) took over as the major villains. They died at the hands of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) at the end of Season 2. And Season 3 brought Roarke and Market Equities as the new villain.

Whatever happens to Roarke in Season 4, “Yellowstone” fans will no doubt be tuning in this summer to root for the Dutton family as they face a whole new season of drama. New episodes should kick off sometime in June.
