by Jon D. B.

Yellowstone icon Gil Birmingham just brought in his 68th birthday at one of the most incredible parks in the United States – and has the footage to prove it!

“A shout out to all my fans for the birthday wishes. I deeply appreciate all your kind words,” Birmingham posts to his official Instagram account.

Within, the Yellowstone actor shares “how I spent my birthday,” before buttoning: “With love, Gil.”

If you’ve been to this U.S. state park before, then you know it immediately. Maybe even from the incredibly blurry footage as a result of the park’s famous landmark: Niagra Falls!

If you ask Niagara Falls State Park’s official website, the first thing they tote of their landmark is “awe-inspiring scenery!” Which, of course, they have in spades. The Yellowstone actor looks to have been right at the falls themselves for his 68th birthday on July 13, 2021.

Niagra Falls itself is an immense display of mother nature featuring three main waterfalls straddling the U.S./Canadian border. These are the Canadian Horseshoe Falls (approximately 670 meters wide (2,200 feet), the American Falls (about 260 meters (850 feet), and the Bridal Veil Falls (about 15 meters (50 feet). In total, the Niagra Falls system is said to be the largest by volume in all of North America.

“It also features thrilling attractions, interactive exhibits, miles of hiking trails, and delectable dining options in a family-friendly environment. It’s an adventure-packed experience! No passport is needed to experience an unforgettable and breathtaking Niagara Falls vacation,” the state park’s site clarifies.

As for Yellowstone icon Gil Birmingham, he looks to have enjoyed the falls specifically for his birthday – “a natural wonder of the world!”

‘Yellowstone’s Gil Birmingham Surprising Start

Gil Birmingham was born on July 13, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas. His family are of the native Comanche people, and his father was in the U.S. military. As an “army brat,” Gil moved around constantly within his childhood.

From here, the actor’s path to Yellowstone would be an incredible, winding one. He first would learn to play guitar as a child – saying it was his “first love.”

For college, Birmingham would obtain a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern California. Specifically, his degree came from the School of Policy, Planning and Development. This led him into a career as a petrochemical engineer – about as far from an actor as one can get!

Then, a talent scout would see a young Gil auditioning for fitness competitions, which led to him being cast in a life-changing project: Diana Ross’ music video for her 1982 hit song “Muscles”.

From there, Birmingham would build a remarkable Hollywood resume both on the big and small screens. But Yellowstone fans know and love him as Thomas Rainwater, Broken Rock’s stalwart leader, and will see his return for Season 4 come Fall 2021.
