The cliffhanger at the end of season three of the hit show Yellowstone left many of us wondering what could possibly happen next.
The season finale episode, “The World Is Purple,” threw us all for a spin. We were left to watch as a coordinated attack takes place against the Dutton family. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) is the patriarch and current Yellowstone ranch owner. He is shot while he’s assisting someone on the side of the road.
Meanwhile, his children, Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) also become targets as well while they are their places of work.
We last saw Kayce flipping over his desk to protect himself from bullets from an unknown shooter in his Livestock Commission office. Subsequently, Beth becomes the recipient of a mail bomb that blows up in her office as her assistant opens it.
As a result, many of the show’s fans have been speculating as to what could happen next at the start of season four.
“If I’ve ever seen a cliffhanger at the end of a show, that’s about as good as it gets,” Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) says in the video. “You’re about to find out that John has obviously been shot up, and Beth has been blown up in a building. I think everybody will be on the edge of their seats until year four.”
However, in the meantime, Paramount Network offers us a glimpse into the epic conclusion of season three as the cast breaks down the episode in a recent video. You can watch the entire video below:
Story Behind Yellowstone Cliffhanger
Of course, the big question remains: who coordinated the hits on the Dutton family? While the most recent Paramount Network video doesn’t come out and answer the question, we are left with some valuable insight from what the cast had to say.
One of those important cast members is Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley). Having recently reunited with his biological father after finding out that he is not a Dutton, many fans have wondered whether or not Jamie would be capable of bringing down the Dutton’s empire.
“There’s a difference in Jamie after all this,” Bentley admits in the video. “He’s always doing it not for his job but for his heart — he was protecting them and the things they wanted. And those people have been terrible to him. But now he doesn’t have to do that anymore. Everyone makes their play for the ranch.”
Bentley is of course referring to all the different characters in the show who could make a push to take over the Yellowstone empire. Roarke Morris, Thomas Rainwater, and Angela Blue Thunder are three prime names to keep an eye on moving forward. And, of course, even Jamie himself is one of the prime suspects as of right now. All of the different characters have their own agendas, making the debut of season four that much more anticipated.
“That many moving parts, that many people in a room. And that much power in the room and different perspectives,” Josh Holloway (Roarke Morris) points out.
“A lot of different people coming in, a lot of different chess pieces. It doesn’t stay calm for long,” Kelly Reilly explains.
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait much longer to make sense of what has happened. Season four of Yellowstone, cable’s No. 1 drama, returns in 2021 on Paramount Network.
