The brand new behind-the-scenes look into Yellowstone continues as young Tate Dutton actor Brecken Merrill holds up his “Sunday promise!”
“It’s #Yellowstonetv Sunday!” begins the 12-year-old actor on his official Instagram. There, he’s been keeping fans far happier in their wait for Yellowstone Season 4 for the past months. With the wait extended until Fall 2021, Merrill promised weeks back to get never-before-seen shots (and stories) from behind the scenes to fans of the show in the meantime. And he has delivered every week!
This Sunday’s posts is a particularly entertaining one, with young Mr. Merrill proving quite the storyteller himself. Within, he gives excellent glimpses into his work on the infamous kidnapping scene – but also how sharp fans noticed his growth spurt in-between seasons!
“When filming a movie or tv show you don’t always do things in order. Because of this, we attempted to use a wig for the infamous kidnapping rescue scene. (That way we wouldn’t have to wait for my hair to grow back for scenes we shot right after),” he begins of the horrible Tate Dutton abduction that still has fans reeling.
“Well, the wig was a disaster despite our incredibly talented hair/makeup/special effects team. It just looked weird…. So we went ahead and shaved it all off for real!” he reveals, which you can see in his photos below:
‘Yellowstone’s Brecken Merrill: ‘I Was A Good 4 Inches Taller!’
In addition, young master Merrill adds that the kidnapping scene “was actually filmed at the beginning of shooting for season three, which meant it had been several months since shooting the previous scene where Tate goes to feed Lucky,” he recalls via Instagram.
This will surprise absolutely no one who has raised and/or has teenage boys, but Merrill reveals he “had grown, fueled by a steady diet of Choco Chimps and donuts, so I was a good 4 inches taller!” than the last time he had shot Tate scenes for Yellowstone. They grow up so fast…
“You guys are Eagle-eyed because several of you noticed the height difference! Someone even made an assumption that it wasn’t me in the scene, but my stunt double. Well, I can assure you it WAS me! I want full credit for wallowing in that gross bathtub! 🤣,” Merrill adds.
It’s fantastic that he’s in touch with his fans and that fans are giving Yellowstone‘s youngest star a positive audience experience while he grows up onscreen. This is absolutely not the case for many child stars – and it says a lot about us Outsiders and Yellowstone fans! Couldn’t ask for a better lot.
“I had to take school pictures the next day, so my shaved head has been forever documented in my yearbook,” Merrill concludes with a “Enjoy the rest of your weekend!”
