‘Yellowstone TV’ Theory: Could Garrett Randall Have Ties to Another Potential Villain?

by Jennifer Shea

When it comes to plot twists, “Yellowstone” fans have thought of everything.

In fact, in a recent thread on Reddit, fans explored a new possibility. Namely, that Jamie’s (Wes Bentley) biological father Garrett Randall (Will Patton) could have secret ties to another “Yellowstone” villain.

In a new post kicking the thread off, a “Yellowstone” fan suggested that Roarke (Josh Holloway) of Market Equities is pulling Randall’s strings. After all, he hired Wade Morrow (Boots Southerland) to rattle John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and push Dutton to do something he couldn’t take back. Could Roarke now be manipulating Jamie through his biological father?, the fan wondered.

‘Yellowstone’ Fans Debate Garrett Randall Theory

“Roarke found Wade Morrow to use against the Duttons. Maybe he hired Randall too,” the fan posted to Reddit. Other fans quickly jumped in to debate that possibility. They also griped about other loose threads they feel went unresolved.

“I never considered that Garrett Randall may be working for Market Equities,” another fan replied. “I like the theory, but I don’t think it’s accurate. When Jamie sought out Garrett for the first time, Garrett didn’t know who Jamie was and even told Jamie that he shouldn’t look to form a relationship with him. If he were working for Market Equities I believe he would know who Jaime is and his task would be to get as close to Jamie as possible in order to manipulate or kill him.”

It is true that Jamie had to track down his biological father and reach out to him. It was not the other way around. And it would take some seriously Machiavellian plotting for Roarke to have known that Jamie was adopted, and to anticipate that he would find out about his biological father at the particular moment that he did. So far, Roarke has not seemed quite that clever.

Fans Gripe About Unresolved Plot Questions

Besides debating that potential plot twist, “Yellowstone” fans also turned the thread into a forum for complaints about loose plot threads.

“I still hung up on what the hell the dinosaur bones/drone had to do with anything at all,” one fan posted.

“I want to know what happened to the explosives put in the gas tank of the airplane Kayce rigged to blow up in season 2,” another fan added.

“Some mysteries aren’t meant to be solved,” yet another fan advised them.

It is clear that “Yellowstone” fans have pondered every possible nook and cranny of the “Yellowstone” universe. And were series co-creator and writer Taylor Sheridan ever to do a fan Q&A, he would doubtless have tons of carefully thought-out questions like that to answer.

As it is, fans will have plenty more grist for rumination before long. When Season 4 launches with a two-hour premiere this Nov. 7, many lingering questions from the Season 3 finale – if not every question fans can dream up – will be answered.
