‘Yellowstone’ TV: Why Isn’t Season 4 Premiering on Potential Date Many Fans Predicted?

by Jennifer Shea

In past years, “Yellowstone” has always premiered its new season in June. But it’s looking like the show’s season premiere may be delayed this year.

Granted, the three prior seasons premiered on June 21, June 19 and June 20, respectively. And granted, the official Instagram account of the Chief Joseph Ranch, the real world setting for the fictional Dutton ranch, said the premiere would take place this month. But it’s possible they were just going by previous years and had no inside information.

With no official Season 4 premiere date yet announced, fans are placing bets on when the next season will actually launch. Earlier this year, the consensus had been June 20. But with Father’s Day fast approaching and no announcement out yet, it seems likely the premiere will happen later.

‘Yellowstone’ Fans Speculate About Season 4 Premiere

On Reddit, “Yellowstone” fans have been speculating about a possible premiere date and the reasons for the delay.

“I just scrolled through PN schedule and no ‘Yellowstone’ listed for Father’s Day,” one fan posted, kicking off the discussion. The fan added, “I checked from 6/19 at 12:30 a.m. through 6/21 at 5:30 a.m. and nothing for the Big Y. I guess Father’s Day will just be another day… sorry, dad. Oops, dad is crying ‘cuz he wanted to see ‘Yellowstone’ on his special day, too. You big meanies!”

Another fan backed that up, observing that nothing is posted yet on the Paramount page. Other networks, like ABC, have released some premiere dates.

Some wondered if the pandemic pushed back filming, and therefore the Season 4 premiere date, as well. Others suggested it might be delayed due to the Olympics.

“I read earlier that it was pushed back due to the Olympics. It will start sometime in August. 🤞🏻 I don’t think they want to have to compete with popular Olympic events,” another fan posted.

That prompted a litany of complaints about the Olympics, with “Yellowstone” fans saying they’re boring and should be cancelled. Moreover, one fan said that timeline doesn’t make sense; “Yellowstone” could premiere in June or even early July and still not conflict with the Olympics.

Series Left Off on Major Cliffhanger

With “Yellowstone” having left off on a major cliffhanger, it’s no wonder fans are climbing the walls for the Season 4 premiere.

When last we saw the Duttons, John Dutton (Kevin Costner) was gravely injured by the side of the road after a drive-by shooting. Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) had disappeared into a cloud of smoke and flames as a bomb engulfed her office. And Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) was fending off a pack of intruders at his office.

There’s been a lot of debate among fans about the culprit behind the attacks. But no consensus has emerged about any particular suspect. So fans can only wait in suspense and hope that “Yellowstone” will have its premiere sometime between now and August.
