Mehmet Oz, also known as Dr. Oz, had to put his medical skills to good use. The TV personality ended up saving a man’s life at the airport.
While at the Newark Airport in New Jersey, a man suddenly collapsed near the baggage claim area. Fortunately for the man, Oz was nearby and sprang into action. His quick thinking saved the man’s life until emergency responders came. According to TMZ, Oz reacted immediately, rolling the man onto his back.
Oz then cleared the man’s airway before beginning to perform CPR on the man. The incident happened on Monday (March 1). At one point, the man reportedly flatlined while Oz attempted to resuscitate him. Using an on-hand defibrillator, Oz shocked the man’s heart back into rhythm.
No other health officials were on the scene initially. But a Port Authority police officer quickly arrived to help Oz. The police officer continued performing CPR while Oz worked to clear the man’s throat. His actions quickly garnered a crowd, who gathered to watch the TV doctor save the man’s life.
A cause for the man’s collapse wasn’t revealed. But doctors believe the man experienced a sudden heart attack. The hospital is running additional tests but he is in stable condition. As for Oz, the doctor reached out to the man’s wife about the man’s condition and how he is doing.
Dr. OZ Will Appear On ‘Jeopardy!’
Dr. Oz will be one of several guest hosts on the gameshow ‘Jeopardy!’ filling in for Alex Trebek’s longstanding role. The announcement has garnered a bit of backlash from fans. Oz is a bit of a controversial figure in the medical world with critics believing he operates in pseudosciences.
Some “Jeopardy!” fans called out Oz for his support of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19. That drug has been highly debated. Some users believe that Oz misled his viewers to support an unproven drug. It wouldn’t be the first time that Oz has been called out for some of his medical views.
Oz studied at Harvard University and received his MD at The University of Pennsylvania. Since 2009, Dr. Oz has been the host of the popular daytime talk show “The Dr. Oz Show,” where he shares his opinions and medical advice with his viewers.
