Video: Dolly Parton’s Dollywood Decorates for Christmas With More Than 5 Million Lights

by Kayla Zadel

Dolly Parton is decking the halls in a big way this Christmas season. The country music legend’s gearing up for Christmas at her amusement park and resort, Dollywood.

Perhaps Dolly Parton is trying to outdo Clark Griswold in National Lampoon’s “Christmas Vacation.” We’re pretty sure that she and her staff at Dollywood are better equipped to handle the copious amount of lights she’s planning on decorating with.

Moreover, the Dollywood website gives a synopsis of the Smokey Mountain Christmas event.

“Take in the experience of a traditional Christmas in the Smoky Mountains with our award-winning festival, named the best in America for over a decade. Gaze in awe at over 5 million glistening lights,” it reads.

Additionally, the lights are surrounding guests, as they glow on every building, walkway, and basically, anything you can stick a string of lights to. Each area of the park will have its own theme, plus different color lights.

The Dollywood Insider Blog says, “For example, Danielle pointed out that Showstreet would be bright and colorful with jewel tones and Jukebox Junction will have the retro colors of turquoise and red in lighting and various fixtures.”

The complete decorating of Dollywood takes 10 days. This organized chaos happens during the week the park and resort are closed. This happens between the two end-of-year events, Harvest Festival wraps up and Smoky Mountain Christmas begins. Moreover, the designers change up the decorations every year, and the design team wants the destination to feel “homey”.

The local news station, WBIR, shares a video of this year’s process.

New at Dollywood this Year

The resort and theme park is getting several new features for this year’s Smokey Mountain Christmas.

The DreamSong Theatre is showcasing a new show called “Heart of the Holidays”. It features members of Dolly Parton’s extended family sharing stories and showcasing songs from her brand new Christmas album. Additionally, the cast’s performing traditional holiday favorites.

Furthermore, fireworks are being added to the festivities every Friday and Saturday night. Of course, the lights in the sky get a soundtrack of holiday tunes.
