Videos of Alex Trebek will never get old. A recently surfaced video of the late Jeopardy! host might just be the best one yet.
Presumably, after a show, Alex Trebek is standing outside of some doors greeting his fans. Being the delightful person he was, he stands there answering questions that people have for him.
One woman asks the late game show host to settle a family story. The question has a great backstory, and Alex Trebek dives right into the question. This is yet another occasion of the Jeopardy! host doing all he can to show his fans love. More importantly, the resulting handful of minutes is wonderful.
For those that don’t know, Alex Trebek is a Canadian-American who came to the U.S. a little while after finishing school. So, there are many people in Canada, as well, who absolutely adore the game show host.
Alex Trebek Shares a Memory With a Woman
“My father said that you lived in the basement of his aunt’s house in Ottawa.” The others gathered around began laughing hysterically. But he is unperturbed by the statement, and she carries on, “when you were quite young, [and] he has contended this for twenty years. Now today, when I confronted him on it, he said, ‘Well, I’m pretty sure I didn’t make it up.'”
The woman clarifies who her parents were and where they lived in Ottawa. Alex Trebek offers perhaps the best line of his career, showing off just how immaculate his memory is. He says, “and I dated her daughter Norma Clayman.”
As the crowd erupts into laughter and applause, the woman asking the question says that she owes her dad a drink. But, Alex Trebek isn’t done there and launches into a story about the family.
Alex Trebek explains that he and Norma were quite serious in their relationship. At this point, the woman is laughing and says, “You could’ve been my uncle?” Again, in his suit and tie, he keeps sharing his memories of the family. He accurately describes the rest of the family, what they were like, where they were working, and so on.
At one point, the woman asking the question begins to finish his sentences for him. This is clearly a fond memory for the Jeopardy! host as he is smiling throughout the recounting. Towards the end of their exchange, Alex Trebek flings his arms open and says, “Darling, welcome home.”
This is one of those videos that you will watch, and can’t help but smile. The late host always had the time and a story for everyone. The world certainly misses him.
