Watch: ‘Blue Bloods’ Star Donnie Wahlberg’s Wife Hilariously Doesn’t Recognize Him on ‘Masked Singer’

by Jacklyn Krol

Donnie Wahlberg‘s wife didn’t even recognize him on The Masked Singer.

Season 5 of the Fox anonymous singing competition has been in full swing. On Wednesday (May 19) the semifinals aired. Judges Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke welcomed guest judge Darius Rucker on the panel.

Throughout the season the rooster clue master Cluedle-Doo was giving hints about the identities of the contestants. Nobody knew if the rooster was a celebrity or just a way to shake things up on the show and help people guess who the singers are.

On Wednesday’s semifinals, he gave his first performance. He performed “Return of the Mack” by Mark Morrison. He then said that he would reveal his identity after it. His performance left fans dumbfounded, he was clearly a professional singer.

Judges guessed that the masked rooster was Jamie Foxx. Jeong believed it was The Zookeeper co-star Kevin James following the giraffe clue. Ironically, Donnie Wahlberg was in the movie as a fellow zookeeper, Shane. Meanwhile, his wife guessed that Cluedle-Doo was pop singer Akon.

When he took off his mask, everyone was in shock and McCarthy dropped to the floor. “I’ve been sneaking in and out,” he told his wife.

“Well, there’s two reasons why I’m here, honestly,” Wahlberg said. “One, obviously, to see my wife. And two, you know, it’s been so long since I’ve performed for my fans. And New Kids On the Block fans, affectionately known as Blockheads, they’re family. They’re my heart,” Wahlberg shared after removing his mask.

Jenny McCarthy on Donnie Wahlberg’s Involvement

Ironically, Jenny McCarthy told Entertainment Tonight at the beginning of the season that there was no way her husband could be on the show while filming Blue Bloods. In past seasons, McCarthy guessed his former New Kids On The Block band members with her former judges even agreeing with some of her guesses.

“I keep wanting it to happen myself. Obviously, we keep bringing his name up,” McCarthy said of Donnie Wahlberg. “Donnie is still on Blue Bloods and until he’s done with Blue Bloods, I would say there’s not really a chance for him to be on.”

“There will be a season, so don’t give up hope,” she added “I’m keeping my fingers crossed! So you just gotta wait until Blue Bloods is wrapped or maybe, who knows, when this COVID thing is over, maybe they can make some room.”
