In addition to being the ultimate “Fixer Upper,” Chip Gaines is pretty amazing with kids.
He is the father of five kids of his own — Drake, Crew, Ella Rose, Duke, and Emmie. On top of that, Chip Gaines has done some really amazing work with St. Judes, an organization devoted to helping children impacted by cancer.
Chip Gaines Fishing With Former St. Jude Patient
Recently, Gaines met up with Bailey, a kid he met back in 2017 through his work alongside St. Jude. The “Fixer Upper” star posted a video of the two of them sweetly reunited out on the lake fishing.
“Jo and I met Bailey back in 2017, and seeing him now as a healthy young man reminds me why we were drawn to St. Jude™️. As if fighting diseases and cancer wasn’t impressive enough, families never receive a single bill. And I don’t know about you, but I think we ought to keep it that way. Click the button on my profile to donate to @stjude. #ChipInForStJude,” wrote Gaines on the post.
As always, Chip also brought along his hilarious sense of humor for the trip. As he’s gathering supplies from the shed he tosses a roll of toilet paper at Bailey and says, “In case things get messy.”
The two also shared a really sweet moment that showcases just how much the children Chip has met through St. Jude means to him. “I didn’t know much about St. Jude at all, and I met you, and what St. Jude means to me is you. Because I remember you, Bailey. Like you saying you kinda vaguely remember me, and I was kind of like this fat guy from the TV you kind of vaguely remember, it wasn’t like that for me.”
In 2017, according to the “Today” show, Gaines raised $230,000 for cancer research. Two years later, he also started up with his “Chip in Challenge,” which has been able to raise nearly a million for the good cause.
Gaines Is Cutting His Hair
Recently, Chip Gaines announced that he would be cutting off his luscious dirty blonde locks in order to support the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in its goal to find cures and save children suffering from cancer.
The “Fixer Upper” star is asking for donations to “Operation Haircut Part 2.” When he hits his fundraising goals, Chip will slowly chop or shave his hair off inch by inch.
“All donations will benefit the lifesaving mission of St. Jude: Finding cures. Saving children. Because of generous supporters like Chip and Joanna Gaines, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food –because all a family should worry about is helping their child live,” a press release from St. Jude stated.
Chip Gaines has already shared his mission on his Instagram account. “I’m going to cut my hair, and I’m asking you to cut a check—and let’s see if we can raise a boatload of money for the kids at @stjude. The hair’s coming off on Friday, but between now and then, let’s chip in together for a good cause,” he wrote with a hilarious video full of hair flipping and lighthearted hate comments about his hair.
