Just like the many hosts of “Saturday Night Live” that came before him, billionaire Elon Musk began his episode of the show with a monologue.

“It’s an honor to be hosting Saturday Night Live. I mean that. Sometimes after I say something, I have to say, ‘I mean that,’ so people really know that I mean it. That’s because I often don’t have a lot of intonation or variation in how I speak. Which, I’m told, makes for great comedy,” he said poking fun at himself.

Among the topics the entrepreneur brought up during the SNL monologue on Saturday, May 8, was the time he smoked pot on a podcast.

“Now, a lot of times people are reduced to the dumbest thing they ever did. Like, one time I smoked weed on Joe Rogan’s podcast,” he said. “And, now all the time I hear is ‘Elon Musk, all he ever does is smoke weed on podcasts.’ Like I go from podcast to podcast lighting up joints. It happened once. It’s like reducing O.J. Simpson to ‘murderer.’ That was one time. Fun fact, O.J. also hosted this show in ’79. And again in ’96. Killed both times.”

However, according to, Simpson hosted Saturday Night Live only one time. This took place in 1978.

At the beginning of his monologue, Elon Musk also revealed that he has Asperger Syndrome.

“I’m actually making history tonight as the first with Asperger’s to host SNL. Or, at least the first to admit it,” he said. “So, I won’t make a lot of eye contact with the cast tonight. But, don’t worry, I’m pretty good at running human in emulation mode.”

Elon Musk’s Mother Joins Him for ‘SNL’ Monologue

Over the years, “Saturday Night Live” has spotlighted the mothers of cast members on the show airing near “Mother’s Day.” And, Saturday night the show and Elon Musk welcomed his mother to the stage.

“SNL is also a great way to learn something new about the host. … Another thing people want to know is what I was like as a kid,” Musk said. “The answer is pretty much the same as now, but smaller. But, you can also ask my mother who is here tonight. Her name is Mae – like the month, but with an ‘e’ at the end.”

Mae was all smiles as joined her famous son on the SNL stage. “Thanks for spelling my name, Elon,” she said with a laugh. The mother and son then took a walk down memory lane.

“Mom, do you remember when I was 12 and I created my own video game called ‘Blast Star’ about a spaceship that battles aliens?” Musk asked.

“I remember they paid you $500,” Mae then said. “But, you were too young to open a bank account, so I had to open one for you.”

“Whatever happened to that bank account?” Musk jokingly asked. “That’s not important,” Mae responded with a smile as the audience laughed. “You turned that video game about space into reality.”

Musk then double-down on the weird persona the public often identifies with him.

“Unless you consider that our reality might be a video game,” Elon Musk then said. “And, we’re all just computer simulations being played by a teenager on another planet.”

“That’s great, Elon,” Mae said as she patted him on the back. “Well, break a leg tonight. I love you very much.”

“I love you too, mom,” he added as they hugged. Musk then got in a joke about Dogecoin. “And, I’m excited for my Mother’s Day gift. I just hope it’s not Dogecoin,” Mae said joking about the cryptocurrency. “It is,” Elon Musk said with a laugh.

Joining Musk on the show was musical guest Miley Cyrus.
