WATCH: Shaq Hilariously Explains Why He Calls ‘Blue Bloods’ Star Donnie Wahlberg’s Son His ‘Nephew’

by Quentin Blount

Every little kid needs an Uncle Shaq in their life. And the son of Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg can actually say that he has that.

Shaquille O’Neal recently sat down on The Big Podcast with Nischelle Turner, Spice Adams, and of course, Donnie Wahlberg. There, they recalled a hilarious moment that took place years ago. Shaq brought little Elijah Wahlberg out on the floor when he was a member of the Boston Celtics.

“Donnie is a huge Boston sports fan,” Turner says in the sit-down. “So, Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics. Shaq, do you remember this picture? This is you and that is Donnie’s son Elijah when he was little.”

That’s not a moment that Shaq could forget. As a matter of fact, the Wahlberg’s are family to The Diesel.

“Well, you know why I grabbed him? ‘Cause, that’s my nephew,” Shaq explains while Wahlberg laughs in the background. “No, no, no, no — that’s my nephew. When I was a kid, his daddy, his uncles, brothers, they looked out for me. It’s Boston tradition, everywhere tradition, hood tradition. When they told me who little man was, he was coming up here with Uncle Shaq. I remember that picture.”

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Remembers the Moment ‘Clear as Day’

As for Donnie Wahlberg, well, he remembers the moment like it was yesterday. The Blue Bloods star now laughs, but at that exact moment in time, he didn’t know what was going on. He was just going with the flow.

“I remember it clear as day. I just had no idea that was gonna happen. Shaq didn’t say a word — the lights started to go down, he walked right over, he grabbed my son’s hand, and walked out. My son was like, ‘Okay.'”

Wahlberg posted a video from the podcast to his official Twitter page.

“Amazing chat with @SHAQ @nischelleturner and @spiceadams — about my son Elijah (@pinklacesmusic) and so much more,” Wahlberg wrote on Twitter. “Catch the entire interview on #TheBigPodcast — so much fun.”

When he finally realized what was taking place, Wahlberg being the proud father that he is, had to go out and get a picture. He remembers asking the closest security guard if they would let him go out on the court.

“I asked the security guy I was like, ‘Listen. I gotta get a picture, can I go on the floor?’ And they were like, ‘Go ahead,'” Wahlberg recalled.

However, it isn’t just Shaq that considers the Blue Bloods star family. In fact, Nischelle Turner also considers Wahlberg to be a brother to her.

“I listened to the podcast yesterday,” one fan replied on Twitter. “Such a great conversation. Love that Nischelle said that you are her brother. You are so loved by everyone that you meet. I can listen to you tell various stories all day.”
