Elvis Presley was always quite the entertainer.

On stage, he would leave crowds of people screaming and singing as he danced and performed. Off the stage, Elvis was also known for his larger-than-life personality. He was always joking around and pulling pranks on his close friends.

At the end of the day, Presley was just a people person. He had a way of talking to people and making connections with a wide range of people — one of which happened to be Welsh singer, Tom Jones.

Jones began his career with a string of No. 1 hits in the mid-1960s. He has a bluesy-style voice that emerged from the surge in American soul music at the time. Artists like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Jackie Wilson were all inspirations to him.

He once even got to hear Elvis Presley’s soulful and alluring voice in person in a fairly intimate setting.

“I’m in the shower and I’m washing my hair and it’s a big shower and I can hear Elvis Presley’s voice. I’m thinking I must be going nuts because I can hear Elvis Presley’s voice in the shower. I open my eyes and the door was right there on the left-hand side. And there’s Elvis leaning over the door singing the song to me. I said, ‘Well Elvis look, it sounds great, but can I just get out of the shower?'” Tom Jones said on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”

Elvis Presley And Tom Jones’ Friendship

Jones first met Presley in 1965 at the Paramount film stage. Elvis Presley was there to film his movie, “Paradise Hawaiian Style.” The two became fast friends and spent a lot of time together in Las Vegas and at Presley’s private suite. They were friends all the way up until Presley passed away unexpectedly in 1977. He even vacationed with him in 1969.

During a recent interview with People, Tom Jones talked more about his close bond with Elvis and his former wife, Priscilla Presley. In fact, he told Priscilla the story about being serenaded in the shower by The King. Priscilla and Jones have remained friends even now.

“She said, ‘I can’t believe that Elvis would be in the bathroom with you at the same time — he never was with me! I said, ‘Well, he was with me, Priscilla. He was. I was naked, and he was half-naked’ — because he had gone to the toilet and had to get his leather pants up. They were North Beach leather, which were hard to get up,” Jones said.

He described Elvis as “larger than life.” When they first met he was floored when Presley approached him singing Jones’ song “With These Hands.”
