‘Wheel of Fortune’: Pat Sajak’s Daughter Maggie Posts Touching Memorial Day Tribute to Her Father

by Halle Ames

Pat Sajak’s daughter Maggie posted a touching Memorial Day message to her veteran and Wheel of Fortune host father.

For Memorial Day, we honor all past and present men and women that have bravely served in our military. Both Maggie and her father, Pat Sajak, have taken to social media this morning to thank the veterans of the U.S. military. One of them being Pat Sajak himself.

Sajak was a proud member of the U.S. Army, selflessly enlisting for service in 1968. He was then deployed to Vietnam for the ongoing war.

According to History.com, the Vietnam War began in March of 1965. Since Pat Sajak wasn’t sent to Vietnam until later, he didn’t have to serve on the frontlines of battle. Instead, he worked as a disc jockey on Armed Forces Radio. He later transferred to Saigon to work on the radio.

Sajak’s Take to Social Media

Pat Sajak took to Twitter this morning to “salute” the memories of those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. It is the only tweet Sajak has made on Twitter.

“I joined the Army in 1968 and was sent to Vietnam where I had the relatively safe duties of finance clerk and, later, broadcaster. So many others did not return, as is true in every war. I salute their memories and their sacrifice. #MemorialDay.”

His daughter, Maggie, who has also appeared numerous times on the Wheel of Fortune, quoted the tweet while also giving her father a shoutout.

“Proud of my father and all veterans. We honor and remember our fallen heroes today and every day.”

Wahoo! Go, Pat!

Pat Sajak’s “Guilt”

Pat Sajak’s experience on the Army broadcast would be crucial in gaining him a job when he returned to the states, however, he admits his easy role left him feeling guilty for not doing more.

“I used to feel a bit guilty about my relatively soft duty. After all, I was billeted in a hotel, and there were plenty of nice restaurants around,” Sajak said. “I always felt a little better when I met guys who came into town from the field and thanked us for bringing them a little bit of home. I always thought it strange that they should be thanking me, given what so many of them were going through on a daily basis.”

When it comes to including military members on Wheel of Fortune, Pat Sajak takes pride in having them and their families on the show.

“In terms of ratings and audience feedback, our viewers seem to enjoy and appreciate that fact,” said Sajak. “As a Vietnam vet, I’m especially gratified to see a change in the way veterans of that war are perceived and appreciated.”

Thank you, Pat Sajak, for your service to our country, along with all the other veterans. From all of us at Outsider, we hope you have a lovely Memorial Day.
