‘Wheel of Fortune’: Step-by-Step Explanation of the Ridiculously Difficult Path to Win Million Dollars

by Halle Ames

The road to winning a million dollars on the Wheel of Fortune isn’t as easy as just spinning a wheel.

We will take you through the step-by-step process of getting on the show and landing big on the million-dollar slot.

First, you have starry eyes for the popular game show. You just need to be a contestant and try your luck. As a Wheel of Fortune fanatic, how could you not do well? So, you submit your application.

Boom! Step two is the audition. Take a deep breath and turn on the charm. You are going to do great. Fast forward, and you nail the interview. According to Looper, now you are just waiting on “the call.”

Imagine sitting next to your phone after the first date. Is he going to call? You sit there, twiddle your thumbs, watch a few rounds of Wheel of Fortune on TV and try to solve the puzzle before anyone else. You are fine-tuning your skills, and then right when you begin to lose hope, a call comes in from California.

Pack your bags, baby! We are going to the Golden State!

However, just because you are on the show does not mean you will land big or even win. That is all based on luck. Hope you wore your four-leaf clover socks.

The elusive million dollar slot on the Wheel of Fortune board is nestled comfortably between two “Bankrupted” slots. You are either going to go home possibly a million dollars richer or the same as when you arrived.

In addition to landing on the profitable wedge, the contestant must also solve the puzzle while continuously avoiding the “Bankrupt” spots.

*In our best infomercial voice* But wait, there’s more! After winning the round, you must go on to win the entire game and enter the Bonus Round.

But the quest for the million dollars doesn’t stop at the Bonus Round. From there, contestants must spin a mini wheel, however, it’s just as intimidating. This Wheel of Fortune mini wheel contains 24 envelopes, including the million-dollar envelope. After landing on an envelope without opening the contents, the contestant must then solve the Bonus Round puzzle.

Suppose you make it this far, congratulations! You are already a star in our book.

But if you still have your eyes on that million-dollar prize, don’t hold your breath. The Wheel of Fortune host, Pat Sajak, opens the envelope and reveals the player’s award. Is it the massive payout or not?

Furthermore, if you win the million-dollar prize, the IRS does expect some collateral payment in the form of taxes. So even when you win, you kind of lose.

But heck, at the end of the day, you’ll go home a heck of a lot richer than you came.
