‘Wheel of Fortune’s Iconic Question Makes Appearance on Recent ‘Jeopardy!’ Episode

by Kayla Zadel

It’s rare when a crossover instance happens between game shows. However, on the latest episode of “Jeopardy!” a question regarding another iconic game show, “Wheel of Fortune,” made an appearance.

Here’s how it happened. One of the contestants chose the $600 clue under the “Croatia” category. The guest host of the game show, Ken Jennings, reads the answer.

“Many visitors to the island of KRK have been inspired to utter this ‘Wheel of Fortune’ catchphrase,” Jennings says.

The contestant answers flawlessly with, “What is can I buy a vowel?”

“That’s right. Not many people get to say that on this stage,” Jennings concludes.

Jennings is just the first of many guest hosts to take the “Jeopardy!” podium after the passing of legendary game show host Alex Trebek. The beloved game show host died on Nov. 8, 2020, of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was 80 years old.

Jennings is the winningest contestant in a regular-season on the game show. Before he stepped into the guest-hosting role, Jennings was serving as a consulting producer for “Jeopardy!” However, during his time as guest host, the ratings have been slipping for the game show.

‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host List

The game show guest list for the next coming months is quite the star-studded lineup. The first set of hosts were announced earlier this year. They include Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is actually a “Celebrity Jeopardy!” champion.

Veteran journalist Katie Couric will be the first woman to host the show. And the second is going to be the “Big Bang Theory’s” Mayim Bialik. She says “it’s a dream come true.”

Rounding out the star-studded list is award-winning journalist Bill Whitaker. He has spent four decades covering news stories around the world for CBS News.

Just the other day, “Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards announced the next round of guest hosts. Stepping in will be Savannah Guthrie. Guthrie is currently a co-anchor of the “Today Show.”

Anderson Cooper has also made the list. Cooper is the primary anchor of the CNN news broadcast show Anderson Cooper 360°. In addition to his duties at CNN, Cooper serves as a correspondent for 60 Minutes on CBS News.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is a neurosurgeon and writer. He’s also CNN’s chief medical correspondent. Dr. Gupta shared his excitement on Twitter.

“I used to watch @Jeopardy with my parents and now with my own kids. The thing is: there is just something so beautiful and reassuring about facts, simple straightforward facts. I cherish that. An honor to be an upcoming guest host, but seriously miss the great Alex Trebek,” Gupta wrote.

Rounding out the list is Dr. Mehmet Oz. He’s the host of his own show, “The Doctor Oz Show.” However, fans aren’t raving about the addition of Dr. Oz to the guest list.
