‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host Pat Sajak Recently Suffered a Terrible Loss

At the end of Monday night’s “Wheel of Fortune,” host Pat Sajak dropped some sad news. He also revealed a surprising fact about something that he and Vanna White share.

“You and I have a lot of things in common,” Sajak said to White. “We both have two kids, we both have the same unusual blood type. But the weirdest of all, we independently, without anyone knowing it, we both named our pets the same name.”

White has a cat named Stella. And Sajak had a dog who was also named Stella.

That’s right, it’s past tense. Because Stella passed on recently, bringing much grief to the Sajak family. She had been with them for 12 years.

“It was a very sad time for the Sajak family,” Sajak confessed. “We’re going to miss her. She was a good friend.”

An outpouring of support from fans quickly followed. Some even commiserated, having recently lost pets themselves.

The Sajak Family Gets Some Happy News

But the death of Stella was tempered by some brighter news for the Sajaks. The game show host’s son, Patrick, just graduated from medical school. And Sajak took time out of a recent “Wheel of Fortune” episode to give his son some praise.

“You know my son Patrick,” Sajak told White, per USA Today. “He’s made it through medical school and he is now officially Dr. Sajak.”

The only problem? Patrick now insists that his father call him Dr. Sajak, which Sajak is a little more ambivalent about.

Sajak also has a 26-year-old daughter, Maggie, who took over White’s letter-turning duties when White filled in for Sajak during the latter’s blocked intestine scare in 2019. The “Wheel of Fortune” host had to have emergency surgery and later said that at one point, he thought he was dying.

In any case, if Sajak was hoping Patrick would take over for his doctor, he can apparently forget it.

“I tried to get him into geriatrics but he refused,” Sajak added. “But that’s a personal thing. Anyway, congratulations, son.”
