‘Wheel of Fortune’: Has Pat Sajak Recently Been Considering Retiring?

by Leanne Stahulak

The longtime “Wheel of Fortune” host has joked for a few years now about taking his leave of the game show. But a recent article from PopCulture.com has debunked several theories claiming Pat Sajak is retiring anytime soon.

For one thing, Sajak’s contract doesn’t expire until 2022, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That, more than anything, will keep the host on the show at least until the end of this year.

But the PopCulture.com article also referenced an OK! article from May, where an “insider” told the magazine, “These are tense times for Pat. He’s really feeling the stress from all angles right now, and the word is that he’s wondering if it’s worth sticking around. He’s not a quitter by any means, but it’s not lost on him that he has plenty of other opportunities outside of the game show.”

However, neither Pat Sajak nor any spokespeople from the show have commented on the issue.

Sajak has been the face of “Wheel of Fortune” for 40 years, earning him three Emmy wins and 19 nominations. He also snagged a Guinness World Record for “Longest Career as a Gameshow Host.” It’s an impressively long stint, similar to the late Alex Trebek’s time on “Jeopardy!” It wouldn’t come as a surprise to hear the Sajak is ready to pursue other options.

“He’s 74 and at a point where most people his age are winding down,” the insider told OK!

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host Overcomes Recent Slip-Ips

Everyone’s bound to make mistakes every once in a while, and usually, TV networks do a decent job of covering those up. But “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak didn’t have anyone to save him when he accidentally revealed the answer to the bonus round question on April 15.

After contestant Jeffrey Knight’s five new letters were inserted into the puzzle, he was left with _ _ _ TE _ R_N _ L _.

“I’d rather be here than up there, quite frankly,” Sajak said sympathetically. Knight didn’t realize at the time that Sajak had unknowingly given him the answer.

Aside from this major reveal, Sajak also came under fire briefly in February after an interaction with another contestant. According to PopCulture.com, as contestant Chris Bimble was introducing himself, he “revealed” that he had a lisp. Sajak responded to his introduction with “I thee” rather than “I see.”

Several fans were outraged by Sajak’s actions, with one fan going so far as to say, “Thanks for making fun of people with a lisp on tonight’s show you arrogant overpaid jerk.”

The contestant laughed off the response on the show and Sajak never faced reprimanding from the studio for the perceived “blunder.”
