“Enjoy yourselves on this very special holiday weekend,” the Wheel of Fortune host states. The tweet features a gif of a waving American flag.

Fans of the Wheel of Fortune star also wished him a special holiday. One fan tweets, “Same to you, friend.” And another jokes, “I want everyone to have 10 fingers remaining on July 5th.”

Pat Sajak Discusses Health Scare in November 2019

In an interview with Good Morning America, Pat Sajak discussed the health issues he experienced throughout the year, including the one that led to emergency surgery in November 2019. The long-time Wheel of Fortune host recalls when he was experiencing horrific stomach pains after his daily morning walk with his daughter, Maggie. While describing the situation, Sajak said he didn’t know what it was, but within two and a half hours, he was in surgery. “It was that quick and tense.”

Sajak also explains that the doctors tried to give various drugs for the pain but none were helping.

“Then they gave me something, I couldn’t tell you the name of it,” the Wheel of Fortune legend jokes. “But suddenly I wasn’t thinking about the pain. I just had these beautiful pastels and lovely faces coming out of it.”

Pat Sajak also discusses how co-host Vanna White took over hosting duties on Wheel of Fortune while he recovered from the surgery. He referred to her as a trooper.

“I’m not being condescending in any way ‘cause it would’ve been well within her rights to say, ‘Wait a minute, this is not what you’re paying me for. This is not what I do. And I’d rather not.’ But she’s a team player.”

Sajak then explains what kind of advice he gave Vanna before she took to the Wheel of Fortune hosting duties.

“There’s not much I could tell her. She knows the way the show works. I just tried to be encouraging and help out on that level.”

Pat Sajak Talks Retirement From ‘Wheel of Fortune’

In regards to when he is planning to leave the Wheel of Fortune stage, Pat Sajak says he still has his wits about him. “[The doctors] didn’t remove that, so I’ll be selling vowels for a long time.” He also notes that he needs to keep doing the hosting gig until he is “Doddering.”

He then adds, “I think I still do it at a high level. But you know, I can’t do it for another 40 years. I know that because I’d be 110 and that would be a record.”

Wheel of Fortune premiered on CBS in January 1975 and now has more than 7,000 episodes. In December 1981, Pat Sajak became the host of the TV game show, following Chuck Woolery. In December 1982, Vanna White became the co-host.
