“Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak knows what it takes to be a successful game show host. He’s been doing it for decades, after all. So, now that Mike Richards has been chosen as the permanent host of “Jeopardy!”, Sajak reached out to him.
Sajak shared his message via his Twitter account on Wednesday, Aug. 11. An in typical Pat Sajak fashion, the “Wheel of Fortune” star’s message was a very humorous one. He started the message to new “Jeopardy!” host Mike Richards with a simple statement.
“I want to welcome Mike Richards to @Jeopardy,” Sajak said.
Next, Sajak shared a bit about his past with Richards. As some fans of “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” are aware, Richards has been an executive producer on both shows. So, it’s very safe to assume that Richards is familiar with Sajak’s work on the famous game show. Also, here’s the part of the message where Sajak’s humor comes into play.
“(Mike Richards) thinks I’m a really good host, so he is obviously a man of taste and good judgment,” Sajak also said.
Then, “Wheel of Fortune’s” Pat Sajak invited Richards to take part in a very special – and most likely fake – gathering.
“(A reminder to Mike that the Game Show Host Association meets on Wednesdays at the Oxnard iHop),” Sajak also joked.
Tweet By ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host Pat Sajak Followed Announcement That Mike Richards Was Named the Host of the Weekly Epidose of “Jeopardy!”
Wednesday’s tweet by “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak came after the news broke that Mike Richards was one of two people selected as the permanent hosts of “Jeopardy!” The other person is “The Big Bang Theory and “Call Me Kat” actress and neuroscientist Mayim Bialik.
According to reports, Richards and Bialik will share hosting duties. Richards will reportedly have most of the screentime in the future on the famous game show. He has been tasked with hosting the typical “Jeopardy!” shows that air each week.
Bialik, on the other hand, will be in charge of hosting special episodes of the famous quiz show. She will host primetime specials, such as the “‘Jeopardy!’ National College Championship” that will air next year. A “Jeopardy!” spinoff is also in the works. If it comes to fruition, Bialik is also slated to be its host.
Mike Richards and Mayim Bialik both served as guest hosts of “Jeopardy!” following the death of longtime host Alex Trebek from cancer during November 2020. The episodes featuring Richards as host aired from Feb. 22, 2021, through March 5, 2021. Bailik’s episodes aired from May 31, 2021, through June 11, 2021.
“We are thrilled to begin the next chapter of America’s Favorite Quiz Show with Mike hosting our daily show and Mayim hosting new versions of ‘Jeopardy!,'” said Chairman of Global Television Studios and Corporate Development for Sony Pictures Ravi Ahuja. “We took this decision incredibly seriously. A tremendous amount of work and deliberation has gone into it. Perhaps more than has ever gone into the selection of hosts for a show – deservedly so because it’s ‘Jeopardy!’ and we are following the incomparable Alex Trebek.”
