On Monday (October 11th), Wheel of Fortune star Pat Sajak took to Twitter to share a “fun fact” about Columbus Day that left fans scratching their heads.

“Fun Columbus Day fact: England, Portugal, and France refused to bankroll his voyage before Spain said yes,” the longtime Wheel of Fortune host writes. “Okay, so it’s not really fun, but it is a fact. Well, I think it’s a fact. Probably as close to a fact as anything you’ll find on Twitter. Time for a nap.”

Fans of the Wheel of Fortune host just kind of rolled with his remarks. One Twitter follower shared, “I will repeat this as fact forever without checking it. But I will always preface it with, ‘Well, Pat Sajak says….’”

Another Twitter user also pointed out to the Wheel of Fortune star another interesting fact about Columbus’ voyage. “Even the Spanish refused to financially support Columbus the first few dozen times he tried.”

In 1492, Christopher Columbus crashed into the Bahamas. He mistook the islands for India originally. As previously reported, archaeologists are still looking into more details about the famous Italian who sailed for Spain to find the New World. This including finding out what happened to the explorer’s ships, the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria.

Two of the Columbus’ ships notably set sail back to Europe after the discovery of the New World, according to the New York Post. The third, the Santa Maria, sailed to Haiti.

Pat Sajak Recently Reveals How Much Longer He Plans to Host ‘Wheel of Fortune’

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Pat Sajak shared his thoughts about how long he is planning to host Wheel of Fortune. “We’re certainly closer to the end than the beginning,” Sajak confirmed. “I’d like to leave before people tune in and look at me and say, ‘Oooh, what happened to him?’”

Sajak then said he wouldn’t bet on seeing him and White in like ten years on Wheel of Fortune. He turned to White and said, “Is that fair [to say]?” She agreed with his comment.

Also speaking about their time together, White stated that her Wheel of Fortune co-host is like her brother. “He’s funny. I mean, we could finish each other’s sentences if we wanted to. We know each other that well.”

Pat Sajak has notably been hosting with Vanna White on Wheel of Fortune since 1982. The duo recently signed contracts to be hosts of Wheel of Fortune through 2024.

In regards to which celebrity he’d love to see participating on Wheel of Fortune, Sajak added, “I would pick Meryl Streep, because I just want to have Meryl Streep standing there and saying, ‘Come on, big money!’ That’s my dream.”
