Ever wondered where the puzzles on “Wheel of Fortune” come from?
Well, possibly from “Wheel of Fortune” co-host Vanna White. Or from one of the other members of the show’s crew. All the show’s crew helps to craft the puzzles, according to Entertainment Weekly.
It turns out White is a big fan of crossword puzzles. And so she particularly loves helping out with making puzzles for the show. At times she does it just for fun, but her puzzles make it onto the show all the time.
Vanna White Asked to Audition to Be a Contestant on ‘Wheel of Fortune’
When “Wheel of Fortune” was just starting out, it was a daytime game show. Vanna White would manage to catch the show, and in fact, she was a big fan of it.
White was such a fan of the show that she once sought to audition to be a contestant on it. Those efforts went nowhere. But after White auditioned – along with 200 other women – to be the show’s co-host, she landed the role.
“My knees were quivering and my legs were shaking,” White later said, per Entertainment Weekly.
White Prays Every Day
White is a firm believer in the power of prayer, she told People magazine in 2019. She was presumably praying for that audition to go well. And she prayed for co-host Pat Sajak’s swift recovery from a blocked intestine earlier that year.
White explained that while she was baptized a Christian, she doesn’t proselytize.
“I don’t preach, because everyone’s entitled to their own beliefs,” she told People. “I don’t judge anyone for whatever religion they are. This is my religion and I speak openly about it, but again, I would never preach.”
White has been through difficult times, such as the 1986 death of her fiancée in a plane crash or the miscarriage of her first child.
“I heard from so many people who had shared the same experience of losing someone instantly in an accident, and that really helped me,” she said of grieving her fiancée. “I didn’t feel like I was alone. Because when something like that happens, you immediately think you’re the only one.”
Meanwhile, “Wheel of Fortune” has been there for White through good times and bad. And she returned the favor, stepping up to fill Sajak’s role when he was out for emergency surgery.
“We’re one big family,” she said of the show’s cast and crew. “It’s wonderful.”
