If you’re a “Wheel of Fortune” fan, you probably know that Pat Sajak doubles as both a co-host and comedian. Once again, he proved he had comedic chops when the long-time host kept us laughing during a recent episode.
Before signing off, Sajak revealed to Vanna White and the viewers that he has something in common with a celebrity. The star in question? Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Quite odd to think about, considering the two are different in looks. Yet, according to Sajak, the two share a similar nickname. As he hilariously describes, when Sajak was in high school, he got the nickname “The Pebble.”
As for Pat Sajak, he’s recently made headlines after rumors began circulating that he might be ending his 40+ year reign on the show. “These are tense times for Pat,” an insider says of the long-time host who left viewers with their jaws dropped in February when he seemingly mocked a contestant’s lisp.
Additionally, in April, Sajak accidentally revealed the answer to a puzzle by saying the words aloud before the contestant had a chance to solve it. “He’s really feeling the stress from all angles right now, and the word is that he’s wondering if it’s worth sticking around,” the insider added. “He’s not a quitter by any means, but it’s not lost on him that he has plenty of other opportunities outside of the game show.”
Pat Sajak’s Future On The Show
As Sajak’s 75th birthday looms, it’s a feasible idea for Sajak to consider retirement. However, the insider notes that the “more likely choice” at the moment would be “making a break for it and trying something totally new” on television.
“He’s 74 and at a point where most people his age are winding down,” the insider says of Pat Sajak. Together with White, the two have hosted the long-running game show since 1982.
However, according to the source, if he chooses to leave, he won’t burn any bridges along the way. “Pat wouldn’t step aside in a huff or anything like that. He has too much class and respect for everyone involved in the show after everything they’ve done for him. But there’s a lot to be said for going out on a high and doing it on his own terms. He’s feeling torn and carefully considering all of his options.”
Although it’s hard to imagine tuning into “Wheel” and not seeing Pat Sajak at the helm, all good things must eventually come to an end.
