‘Wheel of Fortune’: Pat Sajak Hilariously Reveals What Line of Work He’s Going Into ‘After Wheel’

On Friday, Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak was in a joking mood when he posted on Twitter about what line of work he’s going into after retiring from the game show.

The 74-year-old has been the host of Wheel for decades along with his co-host Vanna White. Sajak took over the role in 1981, and he still holds the Guinness World Record for the most game shows hosted. He’s become a staple of television viewing for many, similar to Alex Trebek’s influence on Jeopardy! until he passed away last year.

While he’s not ready to hang it up just yet, the Wheel of Fortune host has at least spoken about retirement in recent history. In 2019, Sajak talked with Good Morning America and said he had a “couple years” left in him.

“I’m not getting any younger. A couple of years,” Sajak said on GMA. “You know what I’m really sensitive about? I’d rather leave a couple years too early than a couple years too late. … I don’t have a date in mind, but two, three [years], something like that.”

Sajak said he doesn’t have a date in mind, and hasn’t announced any retirement plans yet. But earlier today he was looking ahead to his post-Wheel of Fortune career, albeit in a joking manner.

“Might get into IT work or politics after Wheel. In preparation for each, I’m learning to code and taking a gibberish course,” host Pat Sajak hilariously tweeted.

‘Wheel Of Fortune’ Host Doesn’t Seem To Care Who Replaces Him After He Retires

Speaking of Pat Sajak retiring, Wheel of Fortune viewers might be surprised to know the preference for his replacement. Actually it’s his lack of preference more than anything that’s so interesting.

Shockingly enough, Sajak claims to be indifferent about who takes over his longtime hosting gig on Wheel of Fortune. For four decades, he and Vanna White have been at the helm of the famous game show. In recent history, Sajak’s time on the game show has come into question. In fact, it could be coming to an end sooner rather than later.

The Wheel of Fortune host has had some health issues in recent years. They’ve brought into question just how long he plans on continuing in his current role. Sajak had emergency surgery after suffering from a blocked intestine in late 2019. White ended up filling in for him on the show temporarily. In addition, Sajak’s own daughter, Maggie, took White’s place on the puzzle board.

In January 2020, TMZ caught up with Sajak and asked him about his preference for a replacement once he’s gone. Yet even after four decades and a lifetime’s worth of memories on the show, the host doesn’t seem to be losing any sleep over it.

“Once I’m gone, I don’t care who takes the reins,” Sajak simply explained.
