‘Wheel of Fortune’: Pat Sajak Accidentally Gives Away Final Puzzle Answer But Contestant Doesn’t Realize It

by Madison Miller

Pat Sajak has been hosting “Wheel of Fortune” for about 37 years. In his legendary career, Sajak has run the iconic game show to near perfection. However, in a recent episode, he accidentally gave away the answer to the final puzzle.

While Sajak might’ve made a tiny mistake, the contestant actually didn’t catch the minor slip up. Here’s what happened:

Pat Sajak Gives Answer During ‘Wheel of Fortune’

On the Thursday (April 15) episode of “Wheel of Fortune,” the show was down to the final bonus round. The contestant had selected his letters and was trying to solve the puzzle in the allotted time.

As he always does, Sajak was talking to the contestant and the audience. However, as he was talking, he uttered the phrase that turned out to be the answer of the final puzzle. To be fair, it wasn’t necessarily Sajak’s fault, the phrase is extremely common in everyday speech.

“Well, I’d rather be standing here than there, quite frankly,” Sajak said while the contestant was in deep concentration.

Sajak later realized that he had accidentally said the answer to the puzzle while he was talking. Funny enough, the phrase the contestant was trying to guess was “quite frankly.” At the end of the show, Sajak and Vanna White joked about the humorous situation.

She asked him, “Did you hear what you said?”

He responded, “I wonder how many people at home caught it, but in setting up the thing there weren’t that many letters up there … it goes to show you that people are concentrating and they’re not paying any attention to me. And he didn’t get it.”

The contestant didn’t catch the accidental clue. However, it would be interesting to see what the show would have done if he did answer correctly.

The Hilarious Final Puzzle Prize Envelope Incident

Earlier this year on “Wheel of Fortune,” Sajak had another hilarious miscue. After years and years of surprising contestants with their surprise winnings in the final puzzle, Sajak accidentally jumped the gun on opening the envelope. We get it though, hard to contain the excitement when the show is giving away so much money.

Instead of waiting to open the bonus round envelope that says how much a contestant won or missed out on, Sajak tore it open early. He opened it up at the start of the puzzle. Check out the funny clip below:

Sajak then said, “I’m not sure why I did that” while laughing to himself and leaning onto the prize wheel for support. Vanna White said “I don’t think you’ve ever done that” and Sajak went on to blame it on the fact that it was a Friday.

Sajak also reminisced about an old mistake he made many years ago in which he switched around the answer with the category. Instead of saying that the category was a “person,” Sajak said the category was “quarterback.” After nearly four decades, Sajak doesn’t take the small mistakes too seriously.
