Wheel of Fortune hostess Vanna White is going back to her southern roots this Mother’s Day. And she is encouraging her fans and followers to do the same.
The Wheel of Fortune queen since 1982, White has been living on the west coast for more than four decades now. After rising to stardom as the co-host of one the world’s most popular gameshows, one might think that White would feel more at home in Beverly Hills. However, the South Carolina native always turns to her southern roots when the time calls for it.
And evidently, Mother’s Day is the perfect occasion for Vanna White to pull out her southern cookbook. The Wheel of Fortune star took to social media to share her favorite chicken and dumplings recipe with her followers.
“Surprise your mom with a taste of Southern cooking this #MothersDay, courtesy of @TheVannaWhite!”
Not only is the recipe a favorite of White’s, but she also says that her kids love it too. It’s crazy how something as simple as an old recipe can really feel like home.
“Growing up, my kids absolutely loved this chicken and dumplings recipe,” White explained. “It’s also one of my all-time favorites because it reminds me of home. You can take the girl out of the South, but you can’t take the South out of the girl.”
‘Wheel of Fortune’ Star Has Another Southern Comfort’
Despite flipping letters during her day job, we know that Vanna White turns to cooking southern food in her free time. Not only that, but she also reverts back to an old southern hobby instilled in her by her grandma. The Wheel of Fortune hostess told ABC News’ Nightline the story back in 2017.
“When I was five years old, my grandmother taught me how to crochet,” White said. “And, of course, as the years went on, I stopped doing it all the time — until I started ‘Wheel of Fortune.’ My hairdresser was crocheting a baby blanket for her baby, so I picked it up again and never stopped.”
Meanwhile, White has turned one of her favorite hobbies into a business. She is the owner of her personal line of yarn, Vanna’s Choice. White launched the yarn line back in June of 2007 alongside Lion Brand Yarn. Since that time, White has come out with two new yarn lines — Vanna’s Glamour and Vanna’s Sequins.
“When I go to the yarn store, I go crazy,” White admitted. “I could spend hours picking colors. I love it. It’s happy.”
