‘Wheel of Fortune’ Star Vanna White Explained Why She No Longer ‘Spins’ When She’s Introduced

by Joe Rutland

For years, “Wheel of Fortune” star Vanna White would come out when introduced and spin around in front of the camera. She’s stopped it.

“That was my thing, then Pat [Sajak] and I started coming out together so I stopped the spin,” White said in a 2019 interview on “Pickler & Ben.”

She has been a part of “Wheel of Fortune” for nearly 40 years. White takes care of turning the letters as contestants highlight them with their guesses. But her fashion over the years drew millions of viewers’ attention.

It was when she was wearing these dresses and coming out minus Sajak that she’d spin around. Those dresses, by the way, don’t go home with White at the end of her day.

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Star Will Never Be Seen Wearing Same Dress Twice

White said in an interview with Fox News in 2016 that, in fact, she never wears her dresses twice. She said once an episode is finished, those dresses “have to go back to the designer.” Obviously, White adds she “certainly enjoys wearing them.”

As for what she’s going to wear each episode, costume creator Kathi Nishimoto helps White look great on TV. Nishimoto said various designers send “Wheel of Fortune” 50-60 dresses every few weeks. Then they select ones for White to wear.

Nishimoto, when interviewed by People Magazine, said the biggest challenge for her “was to just get her [White] to [be vocal about dresses she doesn’t like]. Because she is so nice, she doesn’t want to say no to anybody.”

White is originally from North Myrtle Beach, S.C. Her “Wheel of Fortune” contract runs through 2022, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans Don’t Hold Back When Offering Their Opinions on White’s Clothes

Everybody has an opinion and “Wheel of Fortune” fans are definitely one opinionated bunch. They especially like to raise their voices about White’s choice of dresses.

Well, White did an interview in 2020 for Delmarva Life’s “Monday Memories.” She said that all feedback is welcome, whether it’s up or down.

“I have people that write in saying, ‘Why did you wear that red dress?! It was so ugly,'” White said. “Or I have other people that say, ‘Oh my gosh, where can I get that red dress?’ So I have had from one extreme to the other, you know. And I love hearing from them, hearing what they like and don’t like.”

Don’t expect the crowd to stay silent anytime soon when it comes to White and her clothes. “Wheel of Fortune” fans love the show, though. Its still one of nighttime television’s most popular shows. It shows no signs of slowing down, either. Sajak and White will have to make contract decisions in 2022. For now, though, catch him at the big wheel and catch her at the big board.
