“Wheel of Fortune” co-host Vanna White has been turning letters a long time. Yet she didn’t get a chance to host the show until 2019.
To be clear, White and regular host Pat Sajak have been together on the show for a long, long time. They have a good on-screen connection that the show’s fans followed from their time on NBC into syndication.
There was a time, though, when Sajak was unable to host the show, according to IMDB.
Vanna White Takes Over Briefly For Pat Sajak On ‘Wheel’
What happened? Well, Sajak needed to take a three-week break in order to recover from surgery in December 2019. On Dec. 9, White hosted the show and continued for three weeks.
So, who turned the letters? During the first two weeks, Mickey and Minnie Mouse costumed characters filled in for White. In the third week, Sajak’s daughter Maggie Sajak turned the letters.
Once Sajak returned to the show, White went back to her letter-turning duties.
Sajak recovered fully from the surgery. But he told USA Today he plans to retire from “Wheel of Fortune” within the decade, though he doesn’t know exactly when that will be.
“I’d like to leave while the show’s still popular, and I’d like to leave before people ask me to leave,” he said. “And I’d like to leave before people tune in and see me and go, ‘Ooh, what the hell happened to him?’”
‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host Sajak Speaks Out On Twitter
Now Pat Sajak is known for sharing his thoughts and opinions on social media through Twitter. Recently, the “Wheel of Fortune” host is putting a good word in for mercy and forgiveness.
“How nice for those who have lived such exemplary lives that they can express glee when others have their lives ruined by a mistake, real or perceived,” Sajak tweeted.
It’s really not clear whom he was talking to or about. Maybe it was just a general observation about cancel culture.
That tweet followed the thought, “Criticizing others is so much easier than examining our own lives… and so much less productive.”
