Following the shocking news that Kelly Clarkson will be paying nearly $200,000 a month in spousal and child support for soon to be ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, sources close to the American Idol legend reveal that the payments are only until the divorce is finally settled.
An insider close with Kelly Clarkson reveals to People that Blackstock will receive $150,000 per month in spousal support. He will also receive an additional $45,601 per month in child support. This arrangement is “strictly temporary” until a final settlement has been worked out. The order also requires Clarkson to pay $1.25 million towards Brandon’s attorney fees and costs for the divorce proceedings.
Kelly Clarkson reportedly filed for divorce in June 2020 after seven years of marriage with Brandon. In early July, the singer and talk show host appealed to officially sign off on her divorce. Her reason was simply that she and Blackstock deserve the opportunity to build new lives.
Kelly Clarkson Receives Primacy Physical Custody of Children in November 2020
in November 2020, Kelly received primary physical custody of her and Blackstock’s children, River Rose and Remington Alexander. At the time, Clarkson was notably pleased with the ruling, as her first priority is to protect/care for the children. A source shared with People, “It’s been a hard time for everyone, but Kelly’s pleased with the court’s ruling regarding custody.”
The insider of the couple’s divorce then says Kelly fought to protect the kids despite having to deal with Brandon and his attorneys, who were making unreasonable requests during custody talks.
Kelly Reveals The Hard Parts of Divorce
During an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show in December 2020, Kelly reveals the hard parts of going through a divorce with Alicia Keys and Glennon Doyle.
“The hardest [part] for me is the kids. That’s the hardest for me,” Kelly explains. “I think as women we are trained to take it all on. You can deal with it and you’re fine. But it’s your babies that you worry about.”
While chatting with Willie Geist on Sunday TODAY in September 2020, Kelly describes her life as a bit of a dumpster. “Personally it’s been a little hard the last couple [of] months,” she says. Clarkson notes that while she has friends that have been through a divorce. She doesn’t know how people go through that without having some kind of outlet.
Kelly also admits to Hoda Kotb that she doesn’t think anyone expects divorce.
“You see yourself growing old with someone and then life has a different path. It’s so hard on everyone.”
Clarkson has addressed her personal life on her daytime talk show numerous times. She explained once that her divorce has been even more difficult because it involves a lot of “little” hearts. “We have four kids and divorce is never easy.”
