The Conners‘ John Goodman revealed this week that longtime Hollywood star Katey Sagal returned to the set of the hit sitcom on Friday.

However, when should fans expect to see her return to the program? Questions remain following Sagal being struck by a car in Los Angeles back in mid-October.

Well, Sagal is back on the set, but she’s reportedly in a wheelchair following the incident. Goodman told The Talk on CBS of her current predicament, “She’s better but she wheeled her way into the studio. She looks great but you can tell she’s a little shaken up still.”

So, it’s great that Sagal is back on the set following such a scary crash, but questions linger about what she will be able to do on-screen if her reported situation is long-lasting. Goodman mentions it’s not only physical issues she’s still working through other issues following the crash.

Katey Sagal on ‘Rebel’

Sagal is a busy actor these days. Even after working in Hollywood for over fifty years now, the former star of Married With Children and Sons of Anarchy stays busy. Sagal continues to reinvent herself in Hollywood by taking on different kinds of roles. Gemma Teller was an all-timer on Sons of Anarchy as a character and Sagal nailed it as a result.

Rebel is another reinvention of sorts. It’s a role inspired by the works of Erin Brockovich. Sagal said of the role, “No, it’s inspired by the life of Erin Brockovich. We don’t have her life rights. So I’m not actually playing Erin Brockovich. I am a character that’s a consumer advocate, a fighter for social justice. And I’m kind of rude and in your face on the side of right. So the actual cases that we deal with are not what Erin is doing. We have more of a fictitious family life. It’s as much a family drama as it is anything. We’re not in the courtroom all the time. It’s broad strokes, that’s what I would say.”

So there are some similarities between Rebel and Gemma a bit. Like Gemma, this character is an advocate. Just for very different things. Gemma was more of an advocate for the club and her family. Rebel s a character that is an advocate on a more broad style. The rude and in-your-face style is something Sagal excels at on the small screen.

It’s also a family drama that Sagal knows how to navigate in. She does it on The Connors. Did it on Sons of Anarchy. Did on Married with Childen. Sagal knows which kinds of roles she excels most in and you have to respect her mastery of these kinds of roles. It’s not easy to pull off this sort of character, and Sagal knocks it out of the park every time.
