During its more than 10 years on television, the reality series “American Pickers” has shown its viewers almost countless items. Some have been more interesting than others. However, in the sharing of those items, the show has offered its own version of a history lesson.

These historical facts came – for most of the show’s run – from hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz. It was their many years of experience in the antique trade that allowed them to gain a wealth of knowledge about a variety of items.

Wolfe talked about the experience they bring to the show during a 2019 video interview shared by Jeffrey K. Howard of Vegas Film Critic.

“Yeah, we’ve been doing it for 30 years now,” Wolfe explained. “But to be honest with you, we – I have [what] my wife calls ‘selective memory.'”

Thanks to this “selective memory” the “American Pickers” star has a knack for remembering the details of historical pieces while at the same time not remembering mundane tasks most people do every day.

“Because I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday, but I can remember, you know, when the first year of Indian and who created it,” Mike Wolfe also explained. “It’s an interesting place to be.”

‘American Pickers’ Star Mike Wolfe Said He Hopes to Be on the Show ‘As Long As My Back Holds Up’

In addition to talking about his unique memory, “American Pickers” host Mike Wolfe also discussed the future of the show. “Yeah, I’m 54 and I’m feeling it, let me tell you. I’ll probably do the show as long as my back holds up,” Wolfe said.

Jeffrey K. Howard also pointed out that he was surprised at Wolfe’s height. Howard said he judged the “American Pickers” star to be shorter than he is in real life. Wolfe stands around six feet tall. He said he thinks he appears taller than six feet on television for a very specific reason.

“I’m six-foot, but I look taller than that because I’m always standing next to [former costar] Frank [Fritz],” Wolfe said with a laugh.

The “American Pickers” star also talked briefly about Nashville, Tennessee. It is in this central hub of country music that Mike Wolfe located his second Antique Archaeology store. The original store is located in Le Claire, Iowa.

“Oh, man. Nashville is an incredible city. Obviously, it’s growing like crazy,” Wolfe said. He then added a few words about his Iowa town. “But, Le Claire is a city of 3,500 people and our small downtown – our Main Street – is really thriving. And, so, I hope that you get a chance to see it because we’re right on the border of the Mississippi River,” Wolfe added.
